FBI arrests 7 in domestic terrorism probe - Raids being conducted in Miami area

>WASHINGTON (CNN) -- FBI agents were raiding sites in Miami, Florida, on Thursday in connection with a domestic terrorism investigation, law enforcement sources said.

The FBI said one search warrant was being executed in the Liberty City area of Miami. Officials said no weapons or bomb-making materials had been found in the searches so far.

"We are conducting a number of arrests and searches, and we'll have more about that when the operation is completed, probably tomorrow morning," FBI Director Robert Mueller told CNN's Larry King in an interview to be broadcast Thursday.

Miami police and the National Guard restored order with roadblocks and guns. By the time the rioting ceased the following morning, 855 people had been arrested and eighty million dollars worth of property damaged. In the skirmishes between Blacks and White motorists, eight White people and ten African-Americans had died. The catalyst for this event occurred in December 1979.

Earlier today, the FBI, in conjunction with federal state and local authorities, executed arrests as part of an ongoing investigation into a terrorist-related matter. The individuals arrested posed no immediate threat to our community.

FBI Search warrant are being carried out by the joint terrorism task force. Documents are currently sealed. No threat to Miami at this time. More will be revealed tomorrow in both Miami and Washington, D.C.

Just across on CNN. Early reports say the area’s flooded with agents. Six to eight suspects are thought to have been arrested, and they’re not believed to be Muslim. If that proves true, expect the lefties to jump all over this one. If not, not.

Update: CNN says no weapons or bomb-making materials have been found, but according to the link above, the FBI’s been planning the operation for four months. Word is it’s domestic terrorism, not a foreign plot.

Terror Suspects Arrested In Miami Housing Project

(CBS4 News) MIAMI After an operation that started about four months ago, the FBI has arrested several suspects of domestic terrorism in a Miami low-income housing project.

The arrests took place Thursday afternoon at the Scott Housing Projects in the area of NW 68th street and 15th Avenue. Miami Police officers were seen in the area securing a perimeter for the FBI to carry out their arrests.

Sources tell CBS4 News it is unclear whether weapons or bomb-making materials were found, but those detained are suspected of being involved in planning terrorist activity.

Neighbors say suspicious activity had been observed at the home recently.

This is a developing story and agents have flooded the area.
