My wife and I have been trying to move out of the northeast for a few years. On the occassions I have gotten close to getting hired (in FL and NC) I have been turned down due to my lack of Spanish.

You're looking in the wrong parts of the states. I live in Western, NC. Look up Lake James, NC.

Someone on the thread suggested western NC, I second that. Charlotte (I live just north of Charlotte) = Mexolina and the Raleigh -Durham area is just too liberal for anyone with a brain.

Wherever you go thoroughly check out the schools if you have kids. Some places are good but they are very, very few and very, very far between. Be prepared to hit the hip for private/parochial or home schooling.

Also, NC has a miserable tax situation but if you are coming from the NE it s/n be too bad. The property taxes in Charlotte are the highest in the SE. For a number of reasons I would stay out of Charlotte-Mecklenburg County if at all possible.
