Schwarzenegger Denies Bush Troop Request(Another RINO SNAFU!)

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger this week rejected a request from the Bush administration to send an additional 1,500 National Guard troops to the Mexican border, the governor's office confirmed Friday.

The National Guard Bureau, an arm of the Pentagon, asked for the troops to help with the border-patrol mission in New Mexico and Arizona, but Schwarzenegger said the request would stretch the California Guard too thin in case of an emergency or natural disaster.

Schwarzenegger spokesman Adam Mendelsohn confirmed the governor's decision Friday after two California National Guard officials revealed it to The Associated Press.

Mendelsohn said the governor believed sending more troops would create an inappropriate burden on the state and disrupt the guard's training schedule.

The overall deployment for the border mission will remain at 6,000 soldiers.

On June 1, Schwarzenegger agreed to send the California National Guard to the Mexican border to help the federal government's effort to curb illegal immigration. That ended a 17-day standoff with the Bush administration over whether the state would join the border patrol effort and who would pay for it.

California has committed to putting 1,000 troops on the border by July 31 and has 250 there already.

Kelly, this thread clarifies that Schwartzenegger does not want to send CA National Guardsmen to Arizona and New Mexico.

Is it legal/possible for Bush to federalize the Guard for this border mission and take the control of this out of the hands of the governors of the border states?

Why??

If something horrible happens, God forbid, he just calls them back from the border.

It is kind of funny to watch the Calif politics.

The night Arnold was elected, half the GOP were seriously thinking of changing the Constitution so he could run for the big office.

That's the same crowd that worshipped recently retired General, Colin Powell, and hoped he would run in '00.

That's the same crowd who were so glad CP didn't run in 00 and did resign as SoS in 04.

Idol Arnold is of clay feet, it seems.

Even that illustrious [snicker] mind [snicker], Julian Philips, of F&F Weekend, called Arnold's reasoning "political" -- Arnold saying he needed to keep the NG just in case there might be a future wildfire or earthquake.

Arnold's reasoning is so transparent that even Philips sees through it.

"why?"
'cause he's a pandering liberal moron...
he's up for reelection and I guess he needs some of those illegal alien voters come November

I almost hope this clown doesn't get reelected!
why should conservative Republicans get strapped with the liberal incompetent baggage this clown is putting on our backs.

Then we can come back in 2010 with a REAL CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN...who? McClintock! thats who!

" Schwarzenegger said the request would stretch the California Guard too thin in case of an emergency or natural disaster."

That is a real head scratcher. If they are already deployed, and then there's an emergency or natural disaster, they would only have to be redeployed since they have already been called up.

Now the Left can argue that we should pull out of Iraq because we don't have enough troops to secure the border (as if they want a secure border).

Arnold should send California NG to New Mexico & Arizona?
Iraq, yes. But to states who refuse to help protect their own borders, no.

And yes it is wild fire season in California.

uhhhhhhh...fyi, we don't send out the NG to fight fires.
that's why we have firemen...and so I don't piss off any feminazis...firewomen! LOL

If the RINO Republican Party leadership in Orange County would have backed Tom McClintock, we could have had a conservative governor in California, and rocked the DemocRATic Party back on its heels for a generation. Then of course, that they wanted someone they could control, and that wasn't Tom McClintock.

Exactly. His excuse doesn't hold water. It's downright silly.

?"Arnold should send California NG to New Mexico & Arizona?"

That's why it's called the "National" Guard.

In a world where actions have consequences, Schwarzenegger and California in general, would pay for their ineptness. Such as dangling in the wind, while waiting for Washington to help save them from being eaten alive by the mass maurauders from Mexico and points south.

As it is, they know full well that any administration will toss tons of dough (ala New Orleans) to bail them out of their self-inflicted mutilation.

I do believe that all three bodies of government are masochistic by nature.
