WASHINGTON - The U.S. population is on target to hit 300 million this fall and it's a good bet the milestone baby or immigrant will be Hispanic.
No one will know for sure because the date and time will be just an estimate.
But Latinos immigrants and those born in this country are driving the population growth, accounting for almost half the increase last year, more than any other ethnic or racial group.
White non-Hispanics, who make up about two-thirds of the population, accounted for less than one-fifth of the increase.
When the population reached 200 million in 1967, there was no accurate tally of U.S. Hispanics. The first effort to count Hispanics came in the 1970 census, and the results were dubious.
The Census Bureau counted about 9.6 million Latinos, a little less than 5 percent of the population, but the bureau acknowledged that figure was inflated.
In 1967, there were fewer than 10 million people in the U.S. who were born in other countries; that was not even one in 20.
Today, there are 36 million immigrants, about one in eight.
"We were much more of an insular society back then," said William Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank.
As of early Sunday, there were 299,058,932 people in the United States, according to the Census Bureau's population clock. The estimate is based on annual numbers for births, deaths and immigration, averaged throughout the year.
The 300 millionth person in the U.S. will likely be born or cross the border in October, though bureau officials are wary of committing to a particular month because of the subjective nature of the clock.
No doubt it's way more than 300 million by now. And if the Senate gets their way by 2050 it'll be up to 500 million+ and growing.
300 million plus the 900 billion illegals that weren`t counted.
RIP America, it was nice knowing ya.
I don't have anything against Latinos per se and I am not a racial bigot. But I have seen their own nations and slummy cities up close and I don't want my nation to become a place like that.
Not to mention that 99% of poor Latinos who become US citizens will vote for whichever party or candidate promises them the most radical degree of steal-from-the-haves-and-give-to-the-have-nots socialism, IOW Democrats. They have no tradition of liberty or personal freedom, nor any intrinsic appreciation for a US style Democratic Republican form of government.
Yeah, and the additional 200 million after here for awhile will take on an entitlement mentality, believing that our tax dollars should be given to them for all the mistreatment stemming from the Mexican-American War of 1846 to 1848. And oh yeah, the RATs in this country will convince them that they are victims, entitled to reparations. An additional 200 million "citizens" voting for RATs....there goes the Republic.
Its a shame that so many Americans have to qualify their opinions by first denying they are bigots. I know, it's from years and years of accusations and brow beating but it still ticks me off that so many do that.
You never hear the left open an opinion with a clarification.
Should we count the dead democrats that still vote?
Those aren't "illegals".
They are "Redeployed Mexicans".
;)
They are about one in three in prison!
I agree. We need to stop doing that.
Does anyone here know the aproximate birthrate in America for couples of white, black, hispanic, japanese, jewish, chinese, American Indian, etc. ancestry?
So sad, yet true. This country is going to be little more than a shadow of itself 25-50 years from now.
I agree. Trouble is no one believes your qualifying statement anyway. The notion has been so ingrained in American minds that anyone who makes a reference to another race or culture that isn't complimentary is a racist pig that it's taken for granted you are just that whenever you voice an opinion that doesn't meet the PC code.
Yet again, hispanics (illegals?) are doing the job us gringos don't want to do!
Work hard, have strong marriages and lots of sex?
Well, I do.
Or just have sex with the women who are married but husband's too busy watching men pull their shirts off while playing the world cut? Call it my own stud service!
