Venezuelan Leader to Visit Kim Jong-il Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a fierce critic of the United States, said Saturday he will meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-il. Observers speculate that ideas for cooperation between the two countries could include an oil-for-missiles deal.

Chavez, who has mentioned plans to visit North Korea several times, told reporters the trip would be about bilateral agreements in technology and science. He did not specify a date.

The two countries forged diplomatic ties in 1974 and have strengthened their relationship since Chavez took office in 1998. In September last year, Yang Hyong-sop, the vice president of the North Korea’s Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, visited Caracas and stressed the need for the two countries to respond jointly to “American pressure and threats.” About a month later, a North Korean economic delegation visited the south American country. Guillermo Garcia Ponce, a former leader of Venezuela’s Communist Party has reportedly visited North Korea several times, and Pyongyang will reportedly open an embassy in Caracas in the near future, a government official said.

Some experts say the two countries could form an anti-American front while exchanging oil for missiles. A former U.S. Army officer said missile technology was a likely tradable good. He quipped the North “is unlikely to export Kimchi,” Korea’s traditional pickled side dish.

The Venezuelan government has been boosting its military strength lately, buying 100,000 Russian-made AK-103 rifles along with a license to manufacture them and expressing interest in buying Russian-made Sukhoi fighter jets. Chavez has said he wants to buy more weapons to repel a U.S. invasion.

2 points spring to mind:

1) great opportunity for a "two'fer", and

b) Chavez is a loon. The last thing anyone needs is missiles in the hands of this dumbass.

Maybe he wants to learn how to install electrified barbed wire along the beaches so his people can't escape the socialist wonderland he's going to create, either. Maybe North Korea can send them some rocks for oil.

What a lovely pair. They ought to invite Ahmadinejad for a threesome.

We will soon have a Chavez on our border. The polls for the Mexican election have the Chavez clone leading in a three-way race. If there is no runoff provided for in the Mexican constitution, better get ready for an even greater flood of immigrants fleeing both economic and political persecution.

Maybe Hugo will get an invite to be with the Chia Pet when he observes with pride the launch of his missle --- and it explodes on the pad clearing a 4 hecter plot of land. That should be enough to get them both in the blast.

1) great opportunity for a "two'fer",

That was my first thought as well. A nuclear "accident" as they are visiting Kim's nuke facilities would be nice!

This makes total sense. Both the leaders of these countries have people starving and they want weapons of mass destruction. Makes sense to me. I've read the Communist Manifesto. (I think it's required reading for all who wish to be elected to the US Senate and US Congress).

Perhaps jim carter can help out these two despots, ya think?

It would be a shame if Kim's nuke accidentally went off while they were looking at it. A darn shame.

Have you read The Humanist Manifesto? Many, including Republicans, in the Federal government signed that one over 25 years ago.

I'm pretty much over pussyfooting around. We're prosecuting our own soldiers for killing people during a war, for G-d's sake.

We find WMDs in Iraq and we're ho-hum in reaction to it ...Bob Beckel, Doomacrat hack on Fox News, went so far as to say that these were the "wrong" WMDs.

We have NOT reacted to any appreciable extent in reaction to the slaughter of 2 of our guys in Iraq.

I'm sick of this...it's time to make the bad guys quake at the mention of US Military Action.

I guess preparations are underway in Pyongyang for a week-long bilateral love-fest and 'evil pride' celebrations...

Actually, I think if the communist wins in Mexico, the current offical policy of shipping social problems north would end.

Obrador has said so himself.
