The 40-Year-Old Virgin Executive By BILL CARTER

If NBC's selection of Dan Abrams, an on-air anchor, as the new day-to-day boss of MSNBC left employees of that all-news cable channel gasping in shock — and it did — the next steps in the reshaping of the long-struggling network are likely to generate at least a few low whistles of surprise.

Mr. Abrams, in an interview at the MSNBC headquarters in Secaucus, N.J., acknowledged that he was still in the learning stages of his new job. At the age of 40, he's taking his first management post in television, where he has worked as a legal analyst and news anchor. While steering away from suggestions that a widespread overhaul of MSNBC is imminent, he did suggest that he would push right away for more breaking news coverage during the channel's daytime hours.

Yeah... They should concentrate on "Count Down with Keith Oberman"!!! That'll guarantee the survival of MSNBC :)

If MSNBC think the Mathews and Oberman shows are their best, they're hurting.

Dan here's a little help.

1) Determine if they are now requiring MSNBC to make money. Really. No more hide the salami accounting or credits for being a liberal voice pipe.

2)If yes to #1. Do the following....

3) Take your 3 bottom performing shows even if thats all you've got and wack them. They've only gotten you that far and that aint even showing up to the starting line. You must realize you are like that guy that got his arm stuck under that rock and decided to cut it off after a few days just to live. You must decide to live Dan!!!

4)Don't run re-runs or taped shows as we've read. Suicide. Worse than peddling that anti-america treasonous garbage. We at least like treason served real time.

5) Dont be afraid to tell the suits to shut her down. You've shat in the sandbox for so long there might not be a clean spot left.

Get started boy!

The article states that Olberman's overall ratings are about 1/5 of O'Reilly's. Seems I remember Drudge showed some numbers that put the number closer to 1/10.

MSNBC is making yet another mistake. They say that all the other channels do headline news during the day and talk at night and that they want to get away from that. They don't seem to see that it is those other channels that have all the ratings so it is not the format that is the problem.

One more thing. It is laughable that they are going to keep Matthews and Olberman. Those two consistently end up at the bottom of their timeslots in the cable news ratings. Clearly, it is political. Also, consider that Olberman's 36% rise since January equates to a number that is little more than rounding error in O'Reilly's ratings.

Weak. Very weak. This is what it looks like when a network implodes.

Well, one ought to give him an opportunity to screw up. If he does screw up - well, what else to expect, and they'll get him for that, sooner or later. And if he manages to unscrew the things - well, that would be even more interesting.

Doc,
We'll know in the next few weeks if Dan is serious about making MSNBC into a cable contender... My gauge would be how he'll deal with Chrissy Matthew and Keith Oberman... If the two shows survive the cut, then it's just a joke to think if they're serious about making themselves legitimate as a cable news network.

Libs kept watching Matthews and Olberman because every night they, or their guests, kept insisting Rove was about to be indicted. Well, that didn't happen. Unless they start saying Cheney is about to be indicted, even the libs will stop watching. Keeping in mind of course, it makes no difference whether there is any truth to any of it.

Two of the channel's hosts, Chris Matthews of "Hardball" and Keith Olbermann of "Countdown," clearly will not be affected, because MSNBC's managers consistently cite those programs as long-sought breakthroughs. "We've just got to build on those two shows," Mr. Griffin said, sitting beside Mr. Abrams in the conference room at MSNBC. "It's critical. We have to capitalize on their success."

MSNBC's bottom two shows are the successes upon which they will build their future? I have but one thing to say. There is a God!

They's prefer going with Rather and Mapes than to employ a sure winner like Ann. Oh, the shame of it all.

If Dan calls, how about proposing a Free Republic Hour? The news discussion here is funnier and more interesting than anything on cable news (including Fox).

MSNBC may try to bring Phil Donahue out of retirement and give him his own show, to save the network.

Oh. Been there. Done that. It didn't work then. It probably won't work now.

pssssst..... hey, Dan Abrams -- I hear a rumor that Dan Rather and Mary Mapes are both looking for work!! You can create a new show, call it "All the News We Could Fabricate" and you will have a sure-fire hit. Come to think of it, you would raise the average IQ and the average level of insight on your shows, since Olbermann and Chrissy Matthews are dragging you down.....

I don't know, MSNBC may bite the dust, with Dan Abrams as the sacrificial lamb scapegoat executive.

The smartest move by any cable news channel this year was for CNN Headline to give a proven radio personality like Glenn Beck an hour of time and let him run with it. The dumbest move was by Fox News always in search of size 10's with hair and teeth to give some witch like Kimberly Guilfoyle a weekend show. Julie Banderas is not much better, but Megan Kendall is a natural.

Kimberly Guilfoyle is one cold, impersonal talking head full of teeth. Rather large teeth. One has the impression that she holds no emotion or personal feelings regarding even the most heinous of stories. Scary.
