American presence in Iraq is more dangerous to world peace than nuclear threats from North Korea or Iran, U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., said to a crowd of more than 200 in North Miami Saturday afternoon.

Murtha was the guest speaker at a town hall meeting organized by U.S. Rep. Kendrick B. Meek, D-Miami, at Florida International University's Biscayne Bay Campus. Meek's mother, former U.S. Rep. Carrie Meek, D-Miami, was also on the panel.

War veterans, local mayors, university students and faculty packed the Mary Ann Wolfe Theatre to listen to the three panelists discuss the war in Iraq for an hour.

"[The United States] became the target when Abu Ghraib came along," Murtha said.

So, according to Murtha, the attacks of 9/11 came AFTER the disclosure of a few soldiers' misbehavior at Abu Ghraib? What color is the sky on Murtha's planet? I recall that after those disclosures, the US offered to close Abu Ghraib out of "sensitivity" to the offended Iraqis, and the Iraqis said, basically, "Grow up. We've seen a whole lot worse."

This statement by Murtha in regard to America as the most dangerous and mortal threat to the world is precisely what I was waiting for.

Whatever margin of credibilty he had possessed to this point is now gone. He has staked his reputation for a shot at the big seat in that wretched party. We'd be foolish not to make that clear to the public.

This man is riding down our country from the floor of the Congress or anywhere else that will entertain him. Enough's enough.
