NEW TODAY: Cannon Defeats Jacob LEHI - In Tuesday's Republican primary, incumbency overcame the anti-immigration wave. Five-term Congressman Chris Cannon had a commanding lead over political newcomer John Jacob with more than 85 percent of the precincts reporting. Cannon had collected 56 percent of the vote to Jacob's 44, with outstanding vote counts primarily in Salt Lake and Utah counties. But by 11:05 p.m. Jacob had already seen enough. He called Cannon to concede.

Freeper Spiff has been all over this posting stories. Cannon seems to have had too big a war chest and IIRC a brother in a high ranking Republican position pulling some strings.

By and large Cannon is a pretty good egg but his position on illegal immigration really stinks.

Being in Utah, I would assume that this seat is safe for the GOP, huh? Is the DemocRAT party very strong in Utah?

This from another thread answered my question:
"The winner will face Democrat Christian Burridge, among others, in November in a district that anyone but a Republican has little chance of winning. Bush carried the 3rd District with 77 percent of the vote in 2004."

It's Satan's fault Tancredo's PAC proved thoroughly ineffective in this race; in fact, he may have become an issue by sticking his nose in a local primary.
Every political battle Bay Buchanan has anything to do with is a guaranteed win for the other side. Every single battle.

And that is a tremendous deal breaker. Anyone who does not believe in defending our nations borders and the rule of law does not deserve to be in office. I'm sorry to see this traitor win the primary.

Why? So the Mormons can try to convert them all?
To: stopem
Yup. In state tuition, 'driver priveledge cards', strong hispanic lobby financed by local business and banks (Zions and Wells Fargo, especially), a Rep. who consideres ID theft a minor crime...
I have no idea why Utah is considered an emerging gateway state. </sarcasm>

I think it's more on the side of white man's guilt syndrome. Any legislation that would take away some benefit etc. and illegal gets is called racist and the politicians run and hide. Same old boring playbook, but it works quite well when you have spineless legislators in office (there are a few exceptions, but not enough).

Bay you are DESPERATELY needed in Pennsylvania for Casey. He will pay you well. Good luck!!! lol.

Tancredo's PAC may have proved thoroughly ineffective in this race, but the issue of amnesty for illegal aliens still remains and will continue to grow.
We owe it to this country.

Jacob blamed his defeat on President Bush's endorsement of Cannon, which was used in radio advertisements and recorded phone messages. "It is hard enough to beat the incumbent. I had to beat the president, too," Jacob said. "It took the energy out of my campaign." But Cannon criticized Jacob for running a campaign with limited proposals. I though Bush with a low approval rating was a drag on a candidate?

Bay Buchanan and Mary Matalin ought to form a political consulting firm. They could charge both sides, or maybe the side they are working for shouldn't have to pay anything.
Jeesh, how does one explain the presence of either of these people in any campaign?
