"Great, another aging Boomer longing to repeat his hippie years, this time with him in charge. "

Today's liberals are yesterday's hippies. Stupid, self-indulgent cowards. Howie wants to ignore the threat that is islam so he can focus on fighting evil conservatives for power.
What a moron.

It's pathetic to see how many of these idiots yearn for the phony idealism and decadence of their youth in the 1960s. It's like a religious zeal for some of them. And Dean talking about how the 1960s are coming back again almost sounds like one of those revival preachers the left hates so much talking about the imminent return of Jesus.

Ann Coulter is right: Liberalism is a religious cult.

The 1960s are over. You folks should have died before you got old.

Your reply is spot on!

The thing that scares me is that they really could pull it off! With so many of the sheeple being spoon fed this same tripe by the MSM, the young mush-heads being spoon fed this by the intelligensia, and the steay drumbeat of anti-Bush, anti-war, and pro illegal alien agenda, the Dims really have set the stage for some violent confrontations.

We have to keep in mind that in the minds of many libs, this was the greatest era that they've ever known! This was when they felt most alive and when they thought that their marches and sit ins were really going to tear down the old order and usher in a new era in humanity. The scary part is that they have had almost 40 years to think about how they screwed up and come up with ways to do it better this time.

We all better keep our eyes on the ball and remember that if they get the levers of power, it's going to be the devil's own time trying to get them back out again.

If this is going to be the new answer to the dimRats "We need a change" - ( s'cuse me, having a fit of convulsive laughter) - as I was saying, if this is their new rallying call, their new direction...hallelujah.

Who, in this post 9-11 era, wants to go back 40+ years? Especially to one of the most turbulent, corrupt times in the country's history???

As usual, the DimRAts are hitching their jackass to the rear of the cart... I think we'd rather be looking for leaders who recognize today's reality and will take the steps needed to combat it face on...with an elephant pulling up front

"they are willing to tear the country apart to get power back. " --- Paloma_55
I guess they could conceivably gum things up a bit, but I don't think they could literally "tear the country apart". --- FrankR
Paloma said they were willing to tear the country apart to get power back. Hell, they're willing to sell their own mothers into Al-Qaida slavery to get power back. That doesn't mean AlQaida's buying. Just that the libs are willing.

The civil rights workers of the 60s would be positively disgusted by what their cause has de-evolved into today. Democrat politicians of the 60s, would be (largely) considered conservative republicans. Abortion was illegal, and illegitimacy was largely frowned upon.

Today ain't the 60s. And wishing will not make it so.

It's interesting you should mention the 1860's. The long view is especially relevant to this thread. The 1860's had a lot in common with the 1960's in that bother were times when the very fabric of the US was being ripped apart. In regards to the civil rights movement, the 1960's was simply the final completion of the work began in the 1860's.

The other movements during the 1960's were the natural culminations of the socialist/communist/unionist movements which also started in the late 1800's.

I'm not naive enough to think that we will never see another period of great social movements, however such things do not happen overnight and typically take a long period to reach their zenith.

Dean's rant has nothing to do with reality or with any identifiable movements that are reaching their tipping points any time soon. The homosexual/civil rights battle being the only big one on the horizon and that one will not see the large social upheaval that the other's did.

Not to give credit to Howard Dean, but there is a serious notion out there that things go in cycles, particularly 40 year cycles. For example, the 1910s, 1950s, and 1990s are all very similar - industry, technology, economic boom... The 1920s, 1960s, and apparently what we are entering now is also very comparable. I can see the next few years as being very interesting.
