According to sources familiar with the prep sessions with Paulson, the former Wall Street executive and well-known supporter of and financial contributor to Democrats could not get in line with the Bush administration's support for ending the estate or "death" tax, and permanent extension of the capital gains tax and other tax cuts that are due to expire in the next three years.

There HAD to be somebody with some basic decency available for the job.
For some reason I can never shake the feeling of the "Washington Prowler" being a conservative Stephen Glass.
Or George Neumayr.
I haven't seen anything new from George this year, and George is as good as it gets for political commentary.

I watched some of these hearings. This guy is the real deal, he's brilliant and pro tax cut all the way.
So the Bush folks got him to read the script?
Or is this report way wrong?
I'd rather have a genuine true believer, however, than someone going through the motions as this piece seems to contrast with your characterization of the hearings.
Did you watch any of the hearings ? I doubt it.
