The REAL bottom line is that there will be a new book re-telling stories that knowledgeable people already knew. All of this is "old" news. One thing that is not mentioned that I feel is sorely lacking in the article is the plain truth that Catholics are taught to repent and forgive. It would be strange if the Bishop had tackled the Jesuit Father at the border and dragged him back to the FBI. To fault the Bishop for "complicity" and trying to turn it into a grand conspiracy theory is a display of gross misunderstanding of what the core Catholics belief and faith are all about.

There has been an acknowledged problem in the Church with this kind of thing, but this is 2006 and the Church has taken measures against those types of people from joining the Church and has paid large sums as I understand it to the victims.

This is a witch hunt that is tied to a book, which means profits, and that is shameful in the extreme.

I have been suspicious of Pio Laghi, the papal nuncio sent to America by Pope Paul II, for a long time.

He recommended a singular number of lousy, unfaithful bishops to the Pope, and I think that was one reason why the Pope failed for so long to turn things around in the National Bishop's conference. Every time a bad bishop retired, another bad bishop took his place.
