Schwarzenegger speaks to gay Republicans in Hollywood

LOS ANGELES

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, on a mission to remind voters that he is not beholden to the party of President Bush, told a group of gay Republicans on Thursday that no one should be judged by their sexual orientation.

"In politics, I believe we need to address problems rather than attacking people," the governor said at a fundraising dinner for the Log Cabin Republicans, a group that has supported him since the 2003 recall election. "Whether you're gay or straight, everyone needs someone to love."

The governor's decision to appear at the fundraiser, although it drew television cameras, did not appear to cause much of a political stir among Republicans.

The only group to register its disappointment was the Campaign for Children and Families, which opposes gay marriage. In a press release, the president Randy Thomasson, accused the governor of "selling out family value voters."

With its moderate Republican leanings, the Log Cabin group is a natural fit for Schwarzenegger. His appearance at their fundraiser allowed him to sharpen the distinctions between himself and President Bush, who could be a liability in the November election.

Schwarzenegger received an award from the group for helping to make the Republican Party more inclusive.

In the eyes of many gay activists, he has a mixed record on gay issues. He has signed a number of bills to expand gay rights in California and he opposes a federal ban on gay marriage. In September, he vetoed a bill to legalize gay marriage in California.

That earned him the "pink brick" award from the organizers of the San Francisco gay pride parade, who give it each year to the public figure who has most hurt the gay rights cause.

The Log Cabin Republicans have stood by the governor, although they broke with Bush after he supported the federal gay marriage ban.

In his 10-minute speech, the governor alluded to his disagreement with the group over the gay marriage issue, while plugging the value of tolerance.

"California is diverse, but it must never be divided," he said. "So, tonight I want you to know that I am proud to be on the same team with you. I can't promise you that I will always be of the same mind, but I can promise you that I will always have an open mind."

In addition to Schwarzenegger, the group also honored Marc Cherry, the creator of "Desperate Housewives."

Complete idiot. There's nothing to celebrate about one man sodomizing another man. That's called deviancy and it's sick.

On social issues, Arnie is a 20-30% conservative. Once in a while he will do what you want, but usually he will disappoint you...

Don't know who no one is for Arnold, but God calls them an abomination in the Bible as they are judged by Him.

California GOP Platform:

FAMILY

National renewal starts with the family. Family is where each new generation gains its moral anchor. It is the school of citizenship, the engine of economic progress, and a permanent haven during societal change. As Republicans, we believe the home should remain the central place for individual decision-making and issues impacting the family should not be handed over to intrusive government bureaucrats.

Recognizing the family as the foundation of our society, and that parents are most capable of making decisions for and about their children, the CRP opposes any effort to weaken parents' freedom of decision and choice, as well as any abridgment of parental rights by the state.

We recognize that the two-parent family provides the best environment of stability, discipline, charity and responsibility. We commend and support those single parents who struggle to maintain stable homes for their families. We resist the efforts of the liberals in the Democrat Party to redefine the traditional family. We offer the Republican Party as an option to all who are concerned about the deterioration of the American family.

Recognizing the traditional model of monogamous heterosexual marriage as the only stable relationship upon which to build a society, we believe that homosexuality should not be presented as an acceptable "alternative" lifestyle in public education and policy. We oppose granting to homosexuals special privileges, including marriage, domestic partnership benefits, and child custody or adoption.

A troll is a fearsome member of a mythical anthropomorph race from Scandinavian folklore. Their role ranges from fiendish giants – similar to the ogres of English fairy tales – to a devious, more human-like folk of the wilderness, living underground in hills or mounds, inclined to thieving and the abduction of humans which, in the case of infant abductees, was substituted with a changeling. Trolls could also be known as hill-folk or mound-folk (huldrefolk) or in Swedish sometimes rån. In Shetland and Orkney tales, trolls are called trowe, adopted from the Norse language when these islands were settled by Vikings.

I'm sorry if I offended by my comment, I should have thought before posting. It obviously takes courage to stand for conservative principles and individual liberty in more hostile locals... and no, it would take a lot more to offend me.

Everyone who does NOT want kindergarteners, first and second graders in the public schools to be indoctrinated that homosexuality is a viable lifestyle, and that practicing it deserves favor and approval should telephone California's Gov. Schwartznegger at 916-445-2841 and ask that he PLEASE VETO Senate Bill 1437. No matter if you don't reside in California. Call anyway with your message. Thank you so much.

"We oppose granting to homosexuals special privileges, including marriage, domestic partnership benefits, and child custody or adoption.

The right policy.

>>>>>"Whether you're gay or straight, everyone needs someone to love."

Sounds familiar.

From Cosmopolitan magazine, "I have no sexual standards in my head that say this is good or this is bad. Homosexual-that only means to me that he enjoys sex with a man and I enjoy sex with a woman. It's all legitimate to me."
--- Hollyweird Schwarzy

Whatever.

"I don't know which is stranger, gay republicans or Republicans in California?"

There is the irony of it.

California is strange territory.

Arnold already said he will veto that bill.

Gov. Schwarzenegger vows to veto Gay-friendly curriculum bill

http://www.christianexaminer.com/Articles/Articles%20Jun06/Art_Jun06_09.html
An attempt by California’s Democrat-controlled legislature to limit all public school curricula and supplemental items containing material demeaning to homosexuals appears to have derailed after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger pledged to veto the measure if it advances to his desk.

Word of his decision was a blow to gay legislators and activists, who championed the bill’s May 11 passage in the state Senate. It passed by just one vote. The bill is now in the assembly where its awaiting committee hearings.

The measure, authored by Sheila Kuehl, D-Los Angeles, also requires all textbooks to contain the historical contributions of gays, lesbians and the transgendered to American society.

While Christian conservatives are cheering Schwarzenegger’s decision, they are still encouraging constituents to register their displeasure for the bill. They are also asking the public to continue lobbying their assembly representatives and tell them to nix the homosexual-friendly bill.
