Weekend Talk Show *Preview* for 7/1 and 7/2/06 (not the live thread)

The main message is the Sunday Shows.  Message 1 will be the Saturday Shows and message 2 will be the show guest links post.  Then I'll post the ping list.

ABC This Week (George Stephanopoulos)

CBS Face The Nation (Bob Schieffer)

CNN Late Edition (Wolf Blitzer)

CNN's "Reliable Sources" (Howard Kurtz)

Fox News Sunday (Chris Wallace)

NBC Meet The Press (Tim Russert)

This is NOT intended to be the live Sunday Morning Talk Show thread. I trust AB will do that as usual. This is strictly a preview of who will be on the main shows. The idea is to give folks a chance to muster their resources for that thread.

I would particularly ask that anyone with specific knowledge or resources about the topics / guests announced for these shows post them here so that the rest of us can go into the shows with a heads up on what to look for. For example,

Ping

The Weekend Preview Thread is up

If you would like on or off my ping list please Freepmail me

The forces of the Old Empire are continuing their counter attack against team Bush.  They are throwing all caution (and discretion) away.  This could be another real interesting weekend.

The most interesting guests to me will be the debate between Mitch McConnell and Dick Durbin Chuck Schumer.  I can't understand what possessed ABC NBC to give Mitch the opportunity to trash the turban Schmuck... unless they felt that Turbin got trashed so bad last week they needed to bring in the "big guns?"  Or maybe Hillary wants to set Schumer up for a fall?  And watch for a deal to be offered on immigration between Pete King and the amnesty crowd in exchange for more funding to be made out as the bogey man in the assault on the NY Times.  Pete has doesn't have to get reelected (unless the DBM helps), dontcha know?

Watch CBS FTN for the main thrust of the counterattack this week.  They and CNN's Reliable Sources are going to try to set the debate for this week as the evil White House versus the noble free press.

The dominant meme appears to be that Bush is trampling on the Constitution and must be brought down a peg to protect us all (you know, "us," the media and the terrorists in Gitmo).  Bush has had too many good weeks, but it's now time to get back to all of the bad things that the media wants to concentrate on.  Oh, and the Democrats may be totally in disarray and not have a brain in their heads, but it's obvious to everyone (in the media) what they need to do in order to win in November... isn't it?

The NYT has published the street addresses of Cheney and Rumsfeld's summer homes.

In the "Escapes" section of the June 30 edition, the N.Y. Times printed huge color photos of the vacation residences of Cheney and Rumsfeld, "identifying the small Maryland town where they live, showing their front driveways and, in Rumsfeld's case, actually pointing out the hidden security camera in case any hostile intruders should get careless," Horowitz writes.

Times Travel section writer Peter Kilborn even makes sure enemies of the two men will know such details as where Mrs. Rumsfeld shops in the eastern shore town of St. Michaels, Md. where the two administration officials have weekend retreats.

He even lets the curious know what street the Cheneys and Rumsfelds have to use to get to their own road.

It's all part of the war against President Bush, Horowitz charges.

Just saw that.  Thread on it here:

N.Y. Times Retaliates Against Cheney, Rumsfeld

It truly is a war, and they (the left) have decided that we are the enemy and Al Qaeda is their friend.

They're psychotic and truly dangerous.

I just had to post that here, Phsstpok. Not to take away the discussion, but just to make sure that everyone knows. I'd love to see FR organize something powerful to condemn this in the strongest possible terms.

It does tie in with the theme for the weekend though, doesn't it? This is an organized and coordinated assault on the elected government of our democracy. It's gone past treason. This is verging on civil war.

Crazy people can put you at risk. Desperate crazy people are actively a danger to themselves and those around them. These loons are several sigma beyond that and are a threat to the continued survival of human civilization.

Once again I am astounded at the amount of work you have done to give us a preview of these shows.

Because it is a First Saturday, I will be at Reconciliation and Mass on Saturday evening, so will miss Beltway Boys and Reliable Sources.

I will, however, be on the Sunay thread bright and early! Looking forward to it!

John Harwood
seemingly, with Bennett, this makes it 2 to 3 in favor of the conservatives... what's wrong with the DBM?

####

Harwood is a marginal conservative, at best. He writes for the "News" side of the WSJ, not the Editorial side. Their 'news" side is quite as liberal as the NYT.

Yeah, but he's one of the "business conservatives."  Witness the title of his article " Bush and Business Struggle To Avoid Immigration Rout."

Unfortunately that's behind their subscriber's only wall, but I'm assuming that means he's playing up the amnesty / cheap labor side of the argument.  Now, it's possible that's merely to embarrass Bush, but I'm making the assumption that that is the kind of conservative he is.

I have sworn off all the talk shows for this weekend as I cannot abide hearing any lib saying how the Supreme Court decision yesterday is a victory for the Constitution and due process and separation of poweres blah blah blah....

I want to hear John McLaughlin or Eleanor Clift or Morton Kondracke or George Stephenapoulos or Bob Schieffer or Chris Matthews say

The Supreme Court just sided with terrorists against the American people. What the hell is up with that?

Only problem for the Junk Media is they did not pay attention to the 2nd part of "St John's blessed Anti-Torture" Amendment. They missed the part that limited the Terrorists access to US Courts. That 2nd part was probably why the President did not veto it. That and it was attached to a Defense Appropriation the President had to have.

So, as usual, the Junk Media has it all wrong. The stupid Leftist on the SC have trapped their terrorist buddies in Legal Limbo. They cannot be tried by Military Tribunals, they cannot be tried in US Courts and we can hold them " until the end of hostilities". The SC ACTUALLY made their situation WORSE. The can now be prisoners forever.

The other thing most of the Junk Media have missed is that this is NOT a decision from the "Bush Court" but the last incoherent, illegal and intellectually vacuous scream from the Clinton Court. Since Roberts had to recuse himself, the 5 Leftists simply chose to ignore the Constitution, ignore the Congress, IGNORE the clear direction in the Geneva Conventions about "Unlawful Combatants" and impose their own emotion based whimsy on the Law. Stupid legally, morally and politically.

Why Politically? Because this decision, like the Iraq votes, the Flag Burning Amendment vote and the Gay Marriage vote remind a disgruntled Conservative base WHY no Leftist can be trust with any political power, at any time at any level. Way to hammer home the wedges into your own political base Democrats! Way to dig yourself into a political hole all while helping fill in the hole the Republican Leadership had dug for themselves!

The really amusing thing is the Stupid Left is so hysteric about "Beating Bush" they have NO clue just how utterly stupid and counter productive the Courts actions were!

Well Hewitt, Bennet and McConnel. I was expecting a quite thread because of the Holiday weekend but maybe not. They really are getting pathetically transparent in their Leftist Cheerleading. Keller's "defense" of the NY Times not only is nonsense, it is a lie. He makes claims that the Wall Street Journal exposed as a complete lie yesterday. Be interesting to see if any of our "Journalists" in the Junk Media will call him on his lies or if it will once again be left to Talk Radio and the Blogs to expose this treasonous fraud.

Actually that is just the nonsensical interpretation of the Junk Media. The real fact is the SC, thinking it was "helping" the terrorists actually have condemned them to Legal Limbo until the Congress acts. Basically the SC decision prevents the Military trying them. The 2nd Part of the McCain Torture Amendment limits access to the US Courts and, contrary to what the Junk Media "Experts" have been screaming the SC Decision SPECIFICALLY states the US can hold the terrorists "as long as hostilities exist". Stupid, illegal and intellectually vacuous, the last decision of the Clinton Court, like most of those their other decision is an utter farce.

William Bennett is going to be on the roundtable for MTP! Stop the presses. I will have to watch that.

Unless I missed it, I think it's interesting that Tim Russert hasn't invited Tony Snow. Considering that Tony is the new WH Spokesman, it would be a typical guest slot but the fact that Tony is avoiding Tony like the plague indicates to me Russert knows he can't best Tony Snow! LOL

I don't have any direct knowledge, but in the run up to Murtha's exclusive (meaning unchallenged) time on MTP one of the regulars (I'm sorry I forget who) posted that Tony had been turning Russert down, while accepting most of the other invites.  They indicated that the Murtha (and then Feingold?) demorat only shows were Russert getting back at the White House for snubbing him.

Again, no direct knowledge, but we don't know for sure who is dissing who here.

Give 'em hell Tony! (always with a smile and a laugh)

Excellent post!

They cannot be tried by Military Tribunals, they cannot be tried in US Courts and we can hold them " until the end of hostilities". The SC ACTUALLY made their situation WORSE. The can now be prisoners forever.

couple that with what Warner is saying:

Warner Is Uncertain on Legislation for Tribunals

and these jihadi's are not going anywhere for quite some time.  Watch for the rhetoric to be ratcheted up about closing Gitmo now and how "cruel and unusual" it is not to give them a "fair trial."  OK, you're kangaroo Supreme's have said they must be treated as Prisoners of War under the Geneva Conventions?  Since when do POWs get trials while combat is still ongoing?  I know!  There's one, and only one, circumstance for trying POWs during a conflict under the Geneva Conventions.  That's when they are caught out of uniform, without wearing markings of association and rank.  Then they can be tried by Courts Martial and executed as spies.

Well, I guess we've got our solution!

Stupid leftist Supremes.  They defied logic, defied the White House, defied the Congress and they spat on the Constitution.  Bottom line, in doing this they are spitting on us and claiming that they are the ultimate power on this planet.  Well, to misappropriate a phrase or two, they should not be so proud of the judicial reign of terror they've created.  It is as nothing next to the power of the people, once enraged.

The really amusing thing is the Stupid Left is so hysteric about "Beating Bush" they have NO clue just how utterly stupid and counter productive the Courts actions were!

This goes along with MiD's post #57 from last weeks Sunday thread about having the shows dominated by the extreme left.  The more we let them talk (and act, as here) the deeper the hole is they dig for themselves and the more engaged and focused we are.

I'm still predicting we get a six to twelve seat pick up in the House and one to three seat pickup in the Senate.  But if they keep talking and acting like this we'll have majorities so large we can even afford to marginalize the RINOs for Bush's final two years.  Wouldn't that be nice?

Well I can dream can I not?

You inspired me to do a little searching.  How are these thoughts for ya...

Zadok Rabinwitz: Dream Quotes
A man's dreams are an index to his greatness.

Antoine De Saint-Exupery: Dream Quotes
A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile the moment a single man contemplates it, bearing within him the image of a cathedral.

T. E. Lawrence: Dream Quotes
All men dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity. But the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.

James G. Huneker: Dream Quotes
All men of action are dreamers.

Orison Swett Marden: Dream Quotes
All men who have achieved great things have been great dreamers.

Walt Disney: Dream Quotes
All our dreams can come true - if we have the courage to pursue them.

And from a different source:

George Bernard Shaw, Back to Methuselah
Some men see things as they are and say why... I dream of things that never were and say why not.

Here, we dream it, then we do what we can to make it so.  Today, with this medium, we have a chance to make this so.  Diane Irey defeating Jack Murtha is one dream that has a very good chance, it seems to me, of coming true, despite the "conventional wisdom" of only a few weeks ago.  We must look at every race in every state and dare to dream, then decide what it will take to make it so.

One more quote, from one of our own, so to speak:

The first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: Decide what you want.
Ben Stein

Mark Kilmer's preview is up at Redstate and his own blog site

The Sunday Show Preview

For Sunday, June 18, 2006

Meet the Press (NBC): Host Tim Russert will have Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer on to discuss the usual stuff and, in words from the MTP web site, "the Supreme Court's rebuke of Bush's use of military tribunals."

FOX News Sunday (FNS): Host Chris Wallace talks to Lindsey Graham and Jack Reed about the Hamdan decision, then to NASA Administrator Michael Griffin about the future of government space flight.

Face the Nation (CBS): Host Bob Schieffer will chat with Arlen Specter and Carl Levin about the Hamdan decision, and he'll chat with New York Times editor/agent Bill Keller about his paper's penchant for providing defense secrets to America's enemies.

This Week (ABC): Host George Stephanopoulos interviews John McCain about John McCain, the Hamdan case, torture at Gitmo, and John McCain.

Late Edition (CNN): Host Wolf Blitzer will chat with Peter King and Barney Frank, Saeb Erakat and Shimon Peres (probably not at the same time), and Tony Orlando. Yes, Tony Orlando, tying a yellow ribbon for the prisoners at Gitmo. It has been a long time for their sweethearts, and the question remains: "Do you still want me jihadding?"

In all fairness, I do not know why Tony Orlando will be on Late Edition.
-----

I've noted that Jack Reed, the Rhode Island Dem, is becoming a frequent face on these shows. He has been in Iowa a lot recently, using his wife's family as a cover, but we could be looking at a nascent Jack Reed for President movement. Who'd have thunk it? Certainly not anyone sane.

Specter and Levin deserve each other, but Specter mouthing off is our best shot at news out of these shows.

The Times' Keller will be appearing on Dan Rather's former network, where had he chosen, the erstwhile anchor could be sitting quietly with an office and a secretary. Perhaps Keller could borrow a few excuses.

a smackdown is contained in this summaruy...

I think it's great news that local newspaper readers are against using the NY Times as a source for news or information.

These papers truly believe they are above reproach and can virtually get away with anything. And if criticized they attack the prosecutor with a vengeance that few have seen.

They definitely need to be taken down a notch or two.
