Because, having libertarian leanings, I would not trust him/her - period. Paint me cynical, but I consider their ineffectiveness, laziness, outright stupidity and so on as our last lines of defense against their inherent evil and malice. Power corrupts, and the only way to limit corrosion is to have ineffective power.
Figuratively it was expressed years ago in the following way:
"No matter whose derriere is filling the chair, the chair is filled by a derriere.
Derrieres, in their turn, are subdivided into itchy and crusty ones. A crusty derriere is by far preferable".

I see your point... Although as a Conservative, I want to see effective leaders for the movement, there is much work to be done to undo the leftist/socialist/statist agenda. Leaving it in place as it stands just proliferates that agenda, and we have and can do better.
