WASHINGTON (AFP) - The American Society of Anesthesiologists called on its members not to attend executions of death sentences by lethal injection, even if called to do so by a court.
In a letter addressed to some 37,000 members, association president Orin Guidry recalled the American Medical Association's code of ethics, which says: "A physician, as a member of a profession dedicated to preserving life when there is hope of doing so, should not be a participant in a legally authorized execution."

However, the procedure has come under scrutiny. If the condemned is not correctly anesthetized by the first of the three drugs, the final two, which paralyze the muscles and stop the heart, are extremely painful.

I wonder how many of these "professionals" are also in favor of doctor-assisted suicide? And abortion?
Nothing betrays the very nature of professionalism like getting involved in politics. The people at the American Society of Anesthesiologists have cashed in their integrity for whatever meaningless sense of importance they think it is worth.
I dont see a problem here. Strap the comned down in a chair walk up behind them and put two in the head.
No anasthesia needed.
Whats a comned?
Let me guess. The American Society of Anesthesiologists has issues no such recommendation when it comes to abortion procedures.
It must be tough being a leftist.
You try to outlaw the death penalty. You fail.
You try to influence public opinion. You fail.
You try to manipulate the courts. You fail.
You try to block implementation. You fail.
You try to block physicians... Pending...
Next they'll be trying to get the pharmaceutical companies to refuse to sell the medications to the prison system.
They oughta consider starvation as a peaceful form of death.
I would serve on a firing squad to kill one of these scumbags, and I would pull the switch on the electric chair.
I would not use my specialized medical skills to kill one of them.
Just my two cents.
You can bet your azz that's right!
OK. No need to step upon their fragile ethics. A molded helmet with attached explosives [or even a helmet molded from an explosive] with simultaneous detonation on all sides will provide convergent shock waves and destroy the brain [and the pain centers in it] in matter of microseconds. Slightly messy to clean afterwards, true, but no anesthesiologists would need to be involved.
Of course it is alright to kill as many unborn babies as you want, just don't help execute a murdering scumbag who is a blight to society, uh-uh!

Your version is better than the one I was going to post, well said.
Anesthesiologists who do not participate in executions should be KILLED!
....by other anesthesiologists .....
....errrr....
Let me think about this one.
Spring loaded and sharpened steel rods on either side of the head attached to the helmet and designed to penetrate their skuills would accomplish the same thing and not be near as messy.
Thank you for #15...WHEW!!
"So now you want to learn how do defend yourselves against pointed sticks, do ye? Fresh fruit not good enough for ya? Well my lad, when some homicidal maniac comes out of the bushes armed with a tub of loganberries, don't come cryin' to ME!"
You lose timing advantage. RDX shock waves are about 5 miles a second. Travel time over 3.5 inches=11microseconds. Your rods will fly MUCH slower.
