Ken Lay's Final Loophole
Nize Notes ^

Posted on 07/06/2006 7:39:44 AM PDT by toaster

...because Ken Lay's case may still have been appealed, Lay's death expunges the conviction from his record.

This means that any orders to vacate his wealth are annulled, and his family gets to keep millions of dollars that they likely would have lost had he gone to jail.

LOL, the Pitkin County sheriff is used to celebrity shenanigans in Aspen - he said he "satisfied" himself that this was truly Ken Lay whose body was autopsied. That was before anyone even asked him the question.

Yes, that was interesting. I'm not sure the basis for the marriage. One possibility: a wife cannot testify against her husband and vice versa.

Vultures pecking at the carcass. Disgraceful.

No, it wasn't and I challenge you or anyone else to prove it.

I'm glad you asked! I was referring to the death of Ken Lay and not what happened to the Enron employees, but the statement still applies. God gives all of us free will and the choices all of those involved in that situation made is what determined the outcome. Romans 8:28 says that in all things, God works together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. That does not mean that everything that happens to us is going to be good - on the contrary. It means that God can USE it for our good if we choose to let Him.

Didn't God now beforehand, about Ken and all the people that were going to suffer from his choices? I'm sure God knew beforehand, what choices Ken was going to make, didn't He? Knowing our choices beforehand, why does God allow bad choices/things to happen?

*Vice versa* in this case, especially.

Not true. They can refuse to testify, if they claim spousal privilege, but they're not forced to do so.

The prosecutors proved it at trial to the jury, whose opinion was the only one that mattered. You really can't unring that bell just because legalities will expunge the verdict.

BTW, your personal attack on me in the next post was offensive in its language, so I am the one who objected.

Actually now that he's dead, the goverment most likely will not be able to get at that $43 million. Civil suits that are already in the works can go forward.

It's still moot, actually, at the moment - legal opinions are mixed on the forfeiture monies. Most say it won't/can't happen, but not all. We'll see.

Thank you. Yet another illustration of what one can learn here.

Yeah, FR is incredibly cool in that regard. We have experts from every walk of life posting here. Doctors, lawyers, Indian Chiefs, you name it.

A misstatement here is almost always corrected before long. I've learned a ton of information from this site. It's not all opinion or silly chat posts. There is some real substance if you're willing to look.
