Let them Hate Us (INTERVIEW WITH A DIXIE CHICK)

Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks discusses her group's new album and her outspoken criticism of US President George W. Bush, the boycotts, the death threats, their betrayal by Nashville and why the group is "not ready to make nice."
...
SPIEGEL: Ms. Maines, three years ago, at a Dixie Chicks concert in London, you drew an enormous amount of criticism for railing against US President George W. Bush. In the United States, you were boycotted, your records were destroyed and you even received death threats. Now you're back with a new single, "Not Ready to Make Nice." Haven't you taken enough beatings?
Maines: This song had to be written because it did us good. And we also took our time on it because it wasn't easy to find the right tone. It wouldn't have been a good song if it sounded like we were scared. Some time had passed, we had more perspective what happened and this album gave us a chance to reflect and take a stance.
...
SPIEGEL: Will Hillary Clinton become the next president?
Maines: It would be crazy for the Democrats to make her their candidate. I don't think the country is ready to vote for a woman in the White House.

I think we should institute a permanent and irrevocable Ditzy Chips ban. No more Ditzy Chips on FR!

I agree with the Dems being crazy part.
As for a woman as chief executive, Margaret Thatcher was UK Prime Minister 27 freakin' years ago. It ain't exactly a new concept.
We don't want GEENA DAVIS as President, OK? Nominate Condi and see what happens.

Well It sounds like they got their talking points pretty well memorized. Other than that I don't hate them. I think they're pathetic morons and should be considered hypocrites if they come back to live in America.

We do give them more publicity here than my local liberal rag.
The Houston appearance has been canceled, or at least rescheduled because of poor ticket sales, but you'd never know it by reading the Houston Chronicle.

I read it (sitting here waiting for a CD to burn.) She seems to think someone has attacked her freedom of speech, which is of course nonsense. I don't think anyone anywhere has said she isn't free to be a damned ass. Natalie seems to think she should be able to say anything and not have any repercussions. Welcome to the real world, fatty.

A given radio station can only play one song at a time. ANY time they're playing a Dixie Chicks song, they're "censoring" every other musician who ever lived, according to the twisted logic.
My local Hard Rock station doesn't play Perry Como. Must be censorship of his hard hitting political views.

Only a famous star could tell millions of people that her freedom of speech has been infringed and actually believe it.
