At 2 a.m. on Sunday, 27-year-old Alan Senitt was murdered. Senitt, an aspiring British politician, Jewish activist and Democratic volunteer, was walking home a female companion in the Georgetown area of Washington, D.C. when he was accosted by Christopher Piper, 25, Jeffrey Rice, 22, and a 15-year-old. Piper, who had a gun, immediately grabbed Senitt's female companion and pulled her away to rape her. Rice, who had stated earlier in the night that he was desperate to "cut" someone, slit Senitt's throat. The three thugs then hopped into a getaway car driven by Olivia Miles, 26, and sped off into the night.
Only hours later, the police arrested the four suspects. Apparently, two of the suspects matched the descriptions of perpetrators of two recent robberies, and the police had already obtained an address for those two suspects. So why did Alan Senitt have to die in order for these animals to be arrested? "I can give you my 100 percent word everything was done within the confines of the law," Lt. Robert Glover of the police department's violent crimes branch told the Washington Post. "We cannot make an arrest without probable cause."
Now the police have their probable cause. Rice was found with Senitt's ID and the woman's cell phone on his person, and his shirt covered in Senitt's blood. The suspects are in custody. And Alan Senitt is dead.
Our Constitution mandates that citizens may not be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law. One of the requirements of due process of law is that arrests not be arbitrary. It is likely true that the D.C. police did everything within the confines of the law to pursue the suspects.

..I'm doing my part....
Bang,......... I mean Ping !
If he was a Demoncratic activist we can guess the answer to that question, but the thugs who killed him wouldn't have known that.
Walking home at 2:00 AM, in any big city is going to be a problem.
Give the man a gun, maybe he can blow away these bastards, but I see he did work for the Rats so he would not know how to use it anyway.
For those of you that are interested in defending yourselves I would reccomend writing your Senators and demand that they support Senator George Allen's [R-VA]bill S.3275 and your Congressman to support H.R. 4547 introduced by Rep. Clifford Stearns [R-FL]. If passed they would standardize concealed carry laws and make it mandatory for all states to recognize concealed carry permits issued by other states.
If Senitt was a British citizen, then he'd have no business carrying a firearm here in the U.S. under any circumstances.
I believe you are correct. The thing I noticed in this story, if I read it correctly the criminals had the juvenile carrying the gun. Washington DC has tough gun laws and they knew the juvenile would walk if arrested with it. If they can prove pre-meditation to cut someone this character needs the death penalty, but this is DC again. Just some poor black youths out for a good time.
Absolutely correct.
States regulate & license firearms, drivers licenses, fishing licenses, nursing and other professional types.
Years ago, while living in D. C., I had a conversation at my front door with four gentlemen. I happened to have a cocked 1911 in my hand. When they were going down the steps I head the largest one (who had been in front) say, What were you poking me in the back for when the man had a great big gun in my face!
Concealed Carry:
I will relate a story told to me by my mother, who was a police reporter on a Washington, D. C. newspaper during the early 1920's. I will not swear to its veracity.
Mother covered an attempted robbery of some firm in which a charwomen of ample proportions, particularly laterally, rose from her knees and threw a brick accurately and hard enough to brain the gunman.
During the interview my mother asked, Where did you get the brick?
The lady drew herself up with pride and announced, Ah always carries a brick in mah bosom!
Seeing as he was a Democratic activist, I'm surprised he didn't have a gun. That gun control stuff is for us serfs, not the ruling elite.
What are you carrying?
Depending on the activity, I alternate between a .380 PPK clone and a .45 Springfield Armory Compact.
The Springfields V-10 have a ported barrel which makes recoil enjoyable. It really eliminates the muzzle flip.
Sig 230 is the flavor of the day for me!
Even in The People's Republic of California, that'd be the case (IIRC)--provided he was here legally.
Good point there. Gun control for thee, not for me.
Actually, I meant with regards to gun ownership. In CA it's pretty hard to a CCW permit regardless of what your nationality is.
Poor situational awareness. I think a lot of Europeans become crime victims because they don't understand there are places you can't safely be at certain times. Then the European media depicts the entire US as a gun-filled free-for-all, when it's really a case of poor decision-making.
I have some friends from England who lived over here for a couple of years and toward the end of their stay they thought nothing of going into the city for dinner late at night, in neighborhoods I would never go to. They quickly got used to the crime-free suburbs and seemed to think that the whole area was kind of a well-policed theme park. There are "no-go" areas even for the police in English cities like Manchester, but because California isn't visibly run-down they couldn't draw the parallel. DC, with its prominent government buildings and monuments, probably exerts the same effect on foreign visitors.
I like that story.
I won't say all or most, but many automobile drivers who drive daily to work, in suburban neighborhoods - have SOMETHING, easily and quickly reached close to or near the drivers seat.
This would finally bring the States back in line with "shall not be infringed"... at least in regards to personal protection equipment.
