Billionaire investor George Soros rigged the bidding during the August 2003 auction sale of the GM Building - cheating a New York real estate investor out of owning one of the city's premier office towers, an explosive lawsuit charged.
The suit, filed by Leslie Dick Worldwide, claims Soros improperly interfered in the bidding by changing the rules on the source of financing for the deal to allow companies he controlled to win the bidding at $1.4 billion, the suit charged.
Leslie Dick claims it bid $1.5 billion and should have been deemed the winner. Instead, Macklowe Properties, and related companies, Soros, and his investment concerns and unnamed entities won and took control of the building from Conseco Inc., the bankrupt insurer forced to sell one of the city's real estate crown jewels.
Soros, through his varied investment concerns, owns and controls the GM Building, the suit charges.

Didn't a Court in France recently find Soros guilty of fraud
in that country? As I recall it had to do with financial irregularities of some sort.

Yes and Yes.
And he lost the appeal as well, just a few weeks ago.
Soros is indeed a convicted felon.

If Soros had been a friend of Bush's, this story would be leading the news, instead it will be buried.

Soros gained his wealth through money market manipulation, and other sleazy business tactics. And we wonder why the guy is a communist lunatic.

Oh he made the money with more than market manipulation. It all started with the seized assests of the WW2 victims.

Seems that Soros found his soul mate in corruption by partnering with Harry Macklowe. Old Harry is about as slimey as they come, even by NYC measures.
During the first phases of the Times Square makeover a property he had acquired was designated a historical theater district landmark that would have severly restricted his oppotunities. Harry had a midnight crew come in and demolition the buiding...without cutting off gas and electric services. A disaster was averted. Big stink about all that but Harry got off with a slap on the wrist.

Hopefully, in the future a revised Able Danger will ferret out all of the illegal activities the $oreA$$ thugs pull every day, week, month and year.
