White House Statement on Condemnation of Hizballah Kidnapping of Two Israeli Soldiers
For Immediate Release
Office of the White House Press Secretary July 12, 2006
Statement on Condemnation of Hizballah Kidnapping of Two Israeli Soldiers
www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/07/20060712.html
Today Hizballah terrorists operating from Lebanon kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and launched rocket attacks against civilian targets in Israel. The United States condemns in the strongest terms this unprovoked act of terrorism, which was timed to exacerbate already high tensions in the region and sow further violence. We also hold Syria and Iran, which have provided long-standing support for Hizballah, responsible for today's violence. We call for the immediate and unconditional release of the Israeli soldiers.
Hizballah's terrorist operations threaten Lebanon's security and are an affront to the sovereignty of the Lebanese Government. Hizballah's actions are not in the interest of the Lebanese people, whose welfare should not be held hostage to the interests of the Syrian and Iranian regimes. We reiterate the international community's insistence that all parties in the region fulfill their obligations under UN Security Council resolutions 1559 and 1680, and cease all support for Hizballah.

Secretary Condoleezza Rice: All sides must act with restraint
[Netanyahu - I got quiet when Arabs saw I gave "crazy" response to attack]
[Likud chairman MK Binyamin Netanyahu explained in a live interview on Israel Television this evening that during his administration when there was an incident on the Northern border he authorized an immediate massive attack against Lebanon and that this brought years of quiet. At the time, Netanyahu noted, the Arabs said that the ferocity of his response was "crazy"] Actions in Northern Israel and Southern Lebanon
Statement by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice

I condemn today's kidnapping by Hezbollah, a terrorist organization, of two Israeli soldiers. Hezbollah's action undermines regional stability and goes against the interests of both the Israeli and Lebanese people.
I have spoken with UN Secretary General Annan, Lebanese Prime Minister Siniora and Israeli Foreign Minister Livni.
We are united in our determination to achieve the release of the Israeli soldiers. Syria has a special responsibility to use its influence to support a positive outcome. All sides must act with restraint to resolve this incident peacefully and to protect innocent life and civilian infrastructure.
You can if you're a "moderate" terrorist.
Bush, Rice, can stuff their "Restraints" in their ears.. hypocrites.
I hope the Jewboys light these scum muslums up.
I support Israel 100%. Period.
Go Israel.
God Bless Israel.
How about that?
Even Michael Corleone knew that when you are at war, you need a wartime consigliere.
Which is why Rice should go to teach something and Bolton should be SOS.
Why are we trying be diplomatic? We're dealing with murderers and bandits and the countries enabling them.
Yes, I agree Israel should show considerable restraint.
Quuite a contrast wouldn't you say between:
Hillary and Condi? Like night and day. Hillary as president wouldn't have rat's @ss clue of what to do in a situation like this, where Condi sharpen's her teeth with these kind of situations. To her it's like a football game.
Does that also go for mexican illegals killing our border guards? The hell with amnesty, we need a declaration of WAR! ;-)
Our SoS cannot speak to appeal to everyone all the time. She has to keep in mind who is her audience? Is Hez. or Hamas the audiance? I think the answer is NO, because if they were, then she would have to use a different tone. You don't release a statement that is directed at everyone in the world. It it directed at certain people and is worded appropriatley. What if.... one of our allies hears Dr. Rice say something like, "Isreal has US backing to completely level Damascus, and Tehran and anyone else they want to in retaliation for the kidnappings", Our allies would be wondering what the hell? Yeah it might scare the heck out of the Islamocrapheads, but would that really achieve anything? No, because unless it was really done, i.e. wiping these muslim crapheads off the face of the planet, they would only see it as weak of the US to say such things, without being really "series".... So in other words, she has to tone down her statement to appease allies and cannot call for more violence, even if she knows that is what is needed to end this.
I don't know because I am neither a diplomat or warrior. But I think we need a diplomat right now. If Israel explodes into a full blown war, the US will be immediately attacked in Iraq and we will be fully involved with Syria, Iran, Lebanon and probably SA. Then there is the wild card with North Korea and their missiles which incidentally, I find interesting at this time. Putin is making noise as well. Who knows what India and Pakistan would do, because of the recent train bombings. This could easily become a real World War with nuclear implications. Don't you think some restraint is a good idea at this time?
oh yeah and .........../end rant
Iran is about to be referred to the UN. If they mean what they've said in recent comments, the mullahs won't tolerate that. Therein lies the trigger.
SOS Rice's comments may be cover for the inevitable. And in the meantime, Israel doesn't look likely to heed any further calls for "restraint". Not for a while.
I don't know if this would be entirely a bad thing. Its about time we got on a Total War footing.
An absolute nonsense response.
Israel, a friend and ally, was attacked. Her soldiers were killed and kidnapped and her civilians were targeted.
There is no excuse in the World in asking Israel to show restraint. None. Zero.
Maybe it's too much to expect the US to show some affirmative support but to ask for restraint is disgraceful and cowardly.
There is too an excuse for asking Israel to show restraint.... it's called full scale thermo-nuclear warfare! If that isn't reason enough, then nothing is. So you want a SoS that encourages violence, even if it's called for, in this case, that violence could get way out of control, and fast! I was just saying that she can't be the one who says "kill 'em all" she has to be the one who says "please show restraint". You think that she and the pres. aren't on the phone with Olmert today anyway, he knows we got his back....
One more "restraint" comment & I'm gonna scream. C'mon, Dr. Rice, find a better phrase. How 'bout "go for it, Israel, kick Hezbollah booty" or "Hamas' a$$ is grass."
I think the US has to be practical. NK is itching to pull the trigger, and our only possible response would have to be with a nuclear weapon, as our resources are fully involved in the ME. A strike against NK would have to be immediate and devastating, without troop deployment. What would China and Russia do? An all out war in the ME against sovereign nations will be catastrophic and if this situation with Israel escatlates much further, our troops are going to be attacked in Iraq and we will respond. I see this thing exploding very rapidily, worldwide. Restraint and diplomacy is crucial at this time.
Our church just put up a new message on it's lighted sign by the road.
It says:
Go Israel!
We are not wishywashy about Israel. Their enemies are our enemies.
Then we can invoke our security arrangements with Israel and wipe the slate clean. Bush and Rice have their eye on the ball, of that I'm sure. It's all about making sure that Dinner Jacket overplays his hand. He's a fanatic; a smart and intelligent fanatic, but a fanatic, and fanatics always undo themselves.
He wants to make us attack him first. What if we don't? What if we provoke him with the hated Joooz? If the Israelis wipe out Hezboallah and Hamas, and he does nothing, he loses big time face to bin Laden and other radicals in the Jihadist movement. He has to do something with the missiles the Chia Pet sold him. Doesn't he? I mean, what if the Israelis kill Hezboallah and knock the Syrians around and then agree to a ceasefire arranged by, ...the Iraqis! Then whose up S**t Creek?
Unless, of course, Dinner Jacket is a big, fat, screaming paper tiger. What if that's been the case all along?
Be Seeing You,
Chris
