Now finally the GOP is starting to see that the Democrats aren't in as strong a position for November as the myth that's been perpetuated he past months. I never have thought they had a chance and argued that since I first joined here months ago. The idea defies logic and the reality of the nations top issues. Well it's about time the GOP is starting to see this and act on it. Well past time IMO. I've never felt that the GOP was going to lose the House or Senate. I argued here months ago when I first came on that all the doom and gloom was unfounded. I'm glad the House Pubs are catching up with reality.
Now if they will act like strong Conservatives and speak out that will put a fork in the Democrats November hopes. This is long below but it illustrates clearly they didn't have any hopes in the first place. It was liberal enthusiasm absent of facts and reality. I'd love input on this. I don't think I missed any major issues, and I feel confident my take on all this is very accurate, and coming to fruitition in the past couple months with the turning of the public opinion polls.
It comes down simply to the fact that the Democrats have no single major issue they can hammer, because all the major issues the Democrats have, their positions on those issues are the OPPOSITE of MOST Americans.
1: The war. They want to run and fight in the courts. Given how Muslims are in France, and Indonesia, and India, and Israel, there's no reason to think leaving Iraq will help the war.
2: Border control and Immigration. They want to do NOTHING because illegals are a voting block for them. Most Americans want REAL border control and immigration reform.
3: Roll back Bush tax cuts. Raise them on the "richest" Americans. It would be a tax increase across the board like always. Anyone ever get a job from a poor man? The economy is booming and the deficit is being paid half down a year earlier because of those supposed "tax cuts for the rich".
4: Judges. Democrats want activist judges like Stevens and Ginsburg, most Americans want conservative Constructionist Judges like Scalia and Thomas, so the Democrats can't talk about Judges, and when they do, all they talk about is that Pro-Life Judges aren't qualified. Most Americans don't want any of that either. The Democrats also can't tough on this, because they know that because of the horrible rulings out of liberal courts, removing all Christian reference from public view, denying free speech for Christians, taking land from people without legal basis, denying the States the right to execute murderers who the people of those States see fit to execute, etc, and they know that most Americans are sick of that, and know that it's liberal Judges that have done these things so the Democrats can't run on Judges
5: Economy. Every so often libs like Pelosi and Reiche will say how bad the economy is. But with 4.6% unemployment, six figure job increases ever month, GDP and new home sales higher every time the new numbers come out, the Stock Market always near the pre-9-11 range or higher, and the deficit now being paid down by half a year earlier than expected, there's no evidence of anything less than a strong economy.
6: Gas prices. They talk about it, but won't debate it, because most Americans know that the price of gas would be FAR lower if we drilled in ANWAR, did shoal oil, which is economical above $40 per barrel, drilled off shore, built more oil refineries, and quit forcing oil companies to make over 100 different blends of unleaded and diesel gas. And Democrats are the ones who oppose ALL of that. Ignoring the fact that we don't control OPEC and THEY set the price for most of the gas we buy, not the oil companies, which make a profit of a nickel per gallon. Compared to State and Federal taxes of 40 to 50 cents per gallon.
7: Gay Marriage. 80% or more of Americans are against gay marriage, and only 15% of gays themselves want gay marriage. MOST gays just want to be left alone. So Democrats can't fight that as an issue either. Illustrated by the 15+ States that have passed gay marriage bans, some in blue states, and only two have failed, and five more are pending that will likely all pass.
8: Partial Birth Abortion. Democrats want it but they won't run on it because most Americans, 95% or more are against it. So they never talk about that.
9: Embryonic stem cell research. There is a mountain of scientific proof that embryonic stem cells show NO promise to cure anything, and haven't cured anything, though adult and umbilical stem cells DO cure things, and have been proven to be effected in trials, but Democrats only want to talk about embryonic stem cells because that props up their defense of abortion. That's the only reason any libs care about stem cell research is to defend the notion that embryos are just tissue and not human life.
10: Global Warming. And the Democrats clearly don't think Global Warming is a winner or they'd be hammering it already as an election issue. With the failure of algore's movie, and other GW failures, they know most Americans just aren't biting on Global Warming scare mongering.
So there you go. The ten most major issues and the Democrats are solidly on the losing side of all these issues and so that leaves them very little but shadows and card tricks to run on. How anyone ever expected that the Democrats were going to win in November is beyond me. NO party has ever won an election when they have no major issues on their side compared to the American people. All the Democrats have is, Iraq is Vietnam and we have to get out (with no evidence to support it), the economy is bad (even though American voters see the opposite with their own eyes), and raising taxes (despite all the visible benefits that any half intelligent voter can see). They flat can't run on anything else in any competitive districts or States.
And that's not even pointing out how much the "Republican culture of corruption" has bitten the Democrats in the butt considering that many times more Democrats have been proven to be corrupt and guilty of crimes, and the DeLay fiasco has only resulted in one indictment which has no chance of becoming a conviction. Oh, and they hate Bush. And that helped them oh so much in 2004, and he isn't on the ballot now. Democrats will not win either House of the Congress, and they won't gain seats either. I'd bet a kidney on it. If James Carville mouths off this time like a couple years ago, he'll have to slam a whole chicken on the top of his head.
Unfortunately, I agree with you. I wish they were more scared. It might make them more attentive to their base.
On the war, the generic claim is that 40% of the US population supports the war while 60% opposes.
I don't think that's right.
I think that 40% approve of the handling of the war, 30% disapprove of the handling of the war because they were against it in the first place, and 30% disapprove of the handling of the war by the Bush administration because they wish the war had been conducted more aggressively and the insurgency crushed sooner.
Of the 30% who opposed the war altogether, about half of them - or 15% of the population - probably support a complete cut-and-run-like-sissies approach.
However, the Democratic message right now is a cut-and-run message.
The Democrat view on the war is the minority view.
Then why does the new FOX poll say people think Dems will run the Country better?
Very good point. And I think it's fair to say that half or most of those 30% who just disappove of the handling of the war, but believe it has to be fought, when push comes to shove, will vote for conservatives, because while they don't think Bush has fought it the best way, they know for a FACT the Democrats would do a worse job than is currently being done. THAT will seal the Democrats fate. The war is the ONLY major issue the Democrats think is on their side, and the reality is, it's not, because no serious minded person with a real knowledge of politics thinks that the Democrats can fight a war more efficiently. Vietnam anyone? That was the democrats war and it took a Republican to get us out. The last democrat to fight a winning war was FDR with WWII. Truman botched Korea and we've lived with his shortsighted stupid mistakes there for over 50 years, and JFK and LBJ conjured Vietnam out of nothing, and cost us tens of thousands of brave men in a war that could have been fought and won in less than three years, and otherwise, shouldn't have been fought at all. Democrats don't know how to fight. They know how to grandstand, retreat, lose, and then shift blame.
I include that with the Judicial part. Eminent domain is a REAL killer for Democrats and it's Judges with their mindset doing it. The American people do NOT like that. And so the Democrats don't EVER mention it.
FOX's polls are proving to be not much more accurate any any others. I only know that the way the real news of all ten of those issues is, the democrats are on the losing end of all those issues compared to how most Americans feel. It defies all logic and common sense to suggest that more Americans therefore would rather have Democrats running Congress, even though the Democrats come down on the opposite side of the majority of American people on every major issue in the country. If anything, this fantasy will give liberals a false sense of security, and make conservatives anxious and sure to get out and vote to make sure that doesn't happen. That's what I see at least.
Democraps will say or do anything to help al qaeda bring down America as long as it will get rid of Bush. Why are they so damn concerned about rights for terrorists, etc.?
The democratic party sells nothing but myths... we really need to make them a much smaller minority and take no quarter--and the republican candidates that does that will win. Those who think they can work with these bastards will lose.
I think people will rally around the President as the war between Israel( and the West) on the one side, and hamass, jihad islami, pflc, pflp, hezbollah, syria, and last but not least, the very hive of the axis of evil, the world citadel of terrorism and hate, Iran, heats up. The war against the terror-masters has been joined. The US has been a no-show in this war with our most noxious foe, Iran, since their so-called "revolution" of 1979. This war will bring the poison to a head, and the American people will understand that their only hope for real peace is to reject the apostles of appeasement, the RATs.
Illegal immigration and Border Security are the two issues...the only issues....for me at least..
AND
The "Minimum Wage" law is actually a minimum jobs law. All it does is demand a raise for employees who don't get fired. Just ask yourself if you want to walk up to your boss right now and demand a raise, threatening to quit if you don't get it. If you don't want to do that, why do you think you're doing anyone else a favor if you pass a law requiring them to do that? The answer to that question is, of course, that "minimum wage" advocates believe in the fantasy "law of conservation of jobs" and not in the law of supply and demand which governs their own behavior. In that fantasy world, people buy things - and bosses hire people - without reference to price. Nobody actually behaves that way, of course - most of us don't have the kind of disposable income that would sustain that behavior, and the few that do have that kind of money didn't get that way by behaving that way.
It's the old story:
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.Teach a man to fish, and it'll cost him a fortune for rods, reels, lures, wading boots, SUVs and motor boats.
But hire a man to fish, and in a few months you will raise his wage to keep him from going to work for someone else.
The idea around which liberalism coheres is that NOTHING actually matters except PR.Naturally journalism consists of a bunch of liberals.
The problem is that 40%+ of the electorate have as their principal issue "keep my (welfare check, Social Security check, or government paycheck) coming", and pay little or no taxes.
That's why the likes of Gore and Kerry can bring any election down to the wire. It's a built in chunk of the electorate that will never vote for a true conservative.
