Good questions, although I think I would change it from 'this war' to when will the mideast regional conflict (assault on Israel) go nuclear.

Its bound to happen with Israel most likely being the first to get nuclear blood drawn against it.

The US presence in Iraq has been and will be pivotal in many ways. Who really knows what the assets are (including ABM) that we have operational there even now.

I would rather the pot be brought to a full boil than lull the west to sleep (and kill it) with a slow simmer

I've been loathe to say it but I wonder if that is what's needed ...

I am not saying to pull out but the contrary. We are in this together with both feet till the end. We will win but the goal is far away. This thread is about the War going nuclear which I believe is a distinct possibility. This being the case "The World" is not safer today than were 5 years ago.

Despite the margaritas, your reasoning is more sober than many in the West would care to admit.

"Lastly, the Pope isn't going to throw his weight (and it is great indeed in a moral sense...he's a great man) behind any side of a war unless one side is clearly identifiable as "purely evil."

Got to do a lot of consultation on this one I'm sure.

I wonder how many of the hand wringers, peaceniks and anti-Israeli leftist pigs have even contemplated what would happen if Iran ships nuclear weapons to hezbollah for use on their missles?

Somtimes I think we face a greater threat from our own leftists and liberals than from our external enemies.

China, and especially Russia, have a little problem with muslims themselves. They're not going to hand nukes over to the crazy man because they might end up in Chechnya.

Then why is Putin so all-fired eager to help the Iranian "peaceful atomic energy program?" Short term money alone can't compensate for the damage a Chechnyan suitcase nuke would wreak.

It's amazing how the issues become so clear after a few drinks. I do seem to recall that I did my best writing in college after a few beers!

Hasnt one dam thing to do with the USA. That Harlot is a religion. And the city is...you guess, it isnt Islam either since the 10 hate her but will put up with her for a time. Islam is the false religion spoken of.

Got to do a lot of consultation on this one I'm sure.

I mean to say, there are plenty of good folk in Lebanon...not everyone is Hizbollah.

There is no reason for this to go nuclear, but if we allow Ahmadinejad to have nuclear weapons, it will by their choice.

Mutually assured destruction is their goal, since martyrdom in the service of killing Jews gets Allah's highest blessing. Iran's goals are spiritual, not material, and the sooner the west learns that the better.

There is no reason to believe the 12th Imam will return based on a sacred writings, which is precisely the problem. We don't believe in sacred software or films, and I've never understood why books get special treatment.

No, the Russians would then have the worlds largest available oil reserves....they would welcome that outcome

I found this paragraph from a Google search.

Here's the link:

http://www.arabnews.com/?page=1&section=0&article=85353&d=15&m=7&y=2006

Here's the paragraph from the link:

The Vatican also issued an extremely critical statement deploring Israel’s attack on Lebanon. “The right of defense on the part of a state does not exempt it from respecting the norms of international law, especially when it concerns the protection of the civilian population,” Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Angelo Sodano announced on Vatican Radio. “The Holy See deplores the attack on Lebanon — a free and sovereign nation,” the cardinal said, noting that he felt “close to the people who have already suffered in defending their independence.”

I think the world is actually safer, or certainly is going to be soon, because messes that have been around for decades are being cleaned up. Bout damn time.
