A real possibility that Israel is calling up all her reserves not for operations in Lebanon but in Syria.
Somehow I can't help but believe the real target is Iran.
Hopefully the US is getting ready for uprisings in Iraq in conjunction with this. Sadr already said he was going to attack US Forces if we keep supporting Israel. That would be a good thing IMHO as we could wipe out his militia and be done with it.
Friends in Israel tell me the call up is huge and highly unusual.
The real target is southern lebannon to clear out Hezbollah, but all of the bakaa valley is a big target as well. It will be symbolic because even though its part of Lebannon, Syria refused to remove its thugs and military from the eastern part of the valley who still operate there. I don't think Israel will attempt a full campaign in Syria. But Israel will get close enough to make the Syrians their bitches in the end.
If Israel punches through there, which I suspect they are going to do so, Syria is going to have less to negotiate with, and when it comes to muslims, everything is about "negotiating". Its how they live their whole lives and culture. Everything is "let's make a deal" and who has leverage in the negotiations.
What Yoni Said ???
This is a situation that Iran cannot afford. If the government in Syria falls, a real possibility if it suffers yet another defeat to Israel, Assad and his puppetmasters are toast. A governmetn unfriendly to Iran will leave them completely isolated and in deep doo doo. However, Syria will not back off because that would result in a complete loss of face could also result in a regime change. If Israel escalates the conflict and takes it to Syria, Assad and co are toast. Either way, a nice result.
Syria first. Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, then Iran. Smallest to largest, and remove Mediterranean ports first.
... "Israel gave Damascus 72 hours to stop Hizbullahs activity along the Lebanon-Israel border and bring about the release the two kidnapped IDF soldiers or it would launch an offensive with disastrous consequences.
Works for me.
