Iran warns Israel of “unimaginable losses” if Syria attacked

Iran warned its arch-enemy Israel Sunday of “unimaginable losses” if it attacks Syria adding that the Islamic republic was “standing by the Syrian people”.

“We hope the Zionist regime does not make the mistake of attacking Syria, because extending the front would definitely make the Zionist regime face unimaginable losses,” foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters.

“Iran is standing by the Syrian people,” he added.

“We have offered and will offer Syria and Lebanon spiritual and humanitarian support,” Asefi said, reiterating Iran’s denial that it is providing military and financial assistance to the Hezbollah movement.

He also hit out at the United States after President George W. Bush said Israel had “every right to defend itself”.

“The United States has had a destructive role by vetoing resolutions and hence encouraging the Israeli crimes,” Asefi said, referring to Washington’s use of its veto in the UN Security Council Thursday to block a resolution calling for a halt to an Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip.

“The United States should reconsider its policies and correct its wrong attitude of supporting the Zionist regime.”

The economic and political risks the West would face under a regional war scenario that included Iran is more than we are prepared for with our troops already on overextended tours of duty in Afganistan and Iraq, though Israel may try to force our hand in this anyway. This strategy may backfire on them in the long run should it plunge the West into a serious economic depression. The inflamed Arab passions in the region could cause the Saudi Royal family to be toppled, a geo-political nightmare for us should it ever happen.

Your original suggestion and statement was to not underestimate the enemy. My point was that Saddam DID obviously underestimate his enemies and well...look where he is now.

Nuclear war in the Middle East, if we join in, will bring in the Chinese as well. The Russians will see this as an opportunity for themselves and join in also. A global nuclear war has no winners, only losers.

On the Beach by Nevil Shute should be required reading today like it was when I went to school.

However, I don't think we are in a position to gloat about Iraq.

If the drivel from "On The Beach" had been accepted as fact when the book was written back in the 50's, the West would have lost the Cold War because we would have just surrendered to the Soviets.

Pull your head out of your surrender hole for gawdsakes!

This is war, a war for Israel's survival, on top of the current Islamofascist war against the West, which will determine the survival of all civilization.

If you really have a gun, remind yourself that it is better to die on your feet, then to live on your knees for 15 minutes before some Muzzie with a sword beheads you either before or after your other family members meet the same fate.

Get with it man!

We ARE in a position to gloat about 50 million human beings who were formerly enslaved under the Taliban in Afghanistan and Saddam in Iraq, now breathing free air, ya know?

I grew up expecting a Soviet 'bolt from the blue' nuclear strike at any given moment. I lived through the Cuban Missile Crisis ready to live for weeks in my school with Civil Defense rations and jugs of water. My parents made every preparation to meet such an emergency, including a basement shelter area.

And those preparations included guns and ammo to confront any enemy coming into our house, foreign OR domestic.

And I'm still ready, so those ragheaded mofos can just bring it the Hell on.

On the contrary, my friend.

The Russians will see this as an opportunity and stay OUT.

I'm glad a gun is all you have. Armed with something more, you would be dangerous.

1) "If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed.
2) If you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not so costly,
you may come to the moment
3) when you will have to fight with all the odds against you
and only a precarious chance for survival.
There may be a worse case.
4) You may have to fight when there is no chance of victory,
because it is better to perish than to live as slaves."
Winston Churchill

I think right now we are at the second line in winston churchills lesson for the ages. Thanks to the UN we've sailed blindly past the point where we can easily win without bloodshed. We had better fight while the victory is not so costly, and that doesnt mean there will be NO cost. It only means that the price to be paid will not be cheap. Because steps 3 and 4 is where we DONT wanna go.

Remember that WAR is not the worst thing that can happen, THAT is where our teachers failed us. There are worse things than WAR you can bet your bottom dollar on that.

"War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen, and I say let us give them all they want."
- General William T. Sherman

“It is my opinion, that it is the fatalistic teachings of Mohammed that has caused the stagnated develoment of the Arab. He is exactly as he was in the 7th century, while the rest of the world has kept on advancing." - Gen George S Patton

"War is cruelty. There's no use trying to reform it, the crueler it is the sooner it will be over."
-William Tecumseh Sherman

We must be the same age...my thoughts exactly...too much "pussy footing" around these days...too much fear in the boots of many...alot of talk and all...they are bringing it on themselves...with all their hate and all so be it. Apparently their lives here on earth are so bad...brought on by their own leaders...that they would rather die than live here. I do not want to stand in their way...but I like life...but not on their terms...but with my freedom and with my choices...not theirs!!!!!!! I will not be a servant to ilsamic thuds...ever!!!!!!!!!!

I don't see how anyone could believe this Iranian threat.

Consider that Iran's primary goal is to defeat Israel and either kill or drive all Jews out of the middle east.

If Iran had the power to defeat Israel why wouldn't they say .. BRING IT ON!!!.

It is part of Muslim culture going back 1200 years. When they have the power to win the battle they play weak. They hope to entice their enemy to attack them. When a Muslim nation is weak they puff themselves up and claim to be invincible in hopes of bluffing their enemy into not attacking.

I think Israel has little to fear from Iran or Syria.

Look at France and Germany. They both suck up to the bad guys. Then what is an Israel to do to get support from Europe? Perhaps the Israeli's need to be so aggressive that the Europeans fear them more than Syria and Iran.

Many of us wonder why we have not seen a more aggressive action then what Israel has done. Perhaps they have come down with the Vietnam syndrome hoping that by gradually upping the anti that the Muslims will give in. We know that does not work. What works is what the Israelis have done in the past.... attack with overwhelming force quickly and decisively. But with Iran and Syria as the enemy it may take some days to get an over powering force into place.

I hope the Israelis have not adopted the gradualism approach. It makes the price much higher if they are to win, and it makes it likely they will lose.

"I think Iran is a reckless outlaw regime that is on the verge of joining the 4th century.

We underestimate our enemies at our peril."

I don't think we underestimate them. What we cannot fathom is thinking that is antithetical to the 21st century. Our minds are not intellectually mired in barbarism.

We had the Enlightenment and centuries of discovery. Islam has had nothing.

Missing the whole point of what I have been posting. This current fighting was planned and started by the Israelis and we are if anything, on the wrong side of this conflict. Israel is not fighting the terrorists, they are destroying the infrastructure of a country.

If we are to take action, then jump in there with a large number of Marines to evacuate our people there. First one that shoots at us, from EITHER side, gets hit where it hurts the most. And we should make it plain to all that anyone using nuclear weapons will get their country leveled by ours.
