Dan Rather Should Stick to His Story ("Absolutely" believes fake but accurate story)

The other night Dan Rather was back in center ring. In an hour long interview with CNN's Larry King. Rather spoke with quiet fury about the suits at CBS who treated him, a 44-year employee, so disgracefully. It turns out that at the end, it was the lawyers--not actor-turned corporate honcho Leslie Moonves--who told Rather "we just don't have a place for you." But, as Rather understood--as has anyone watching the networks these last years--CBS News is a cog in an entertainment company.

My point is ... regardless of your politics, if you are an "unbiased media person", why not tell both stories?

For one thing, Kerry's service record was, by his choice, integral to his campaign, whereas Bush's service was not. Kerry's entire campaign was "I'm a war hero", so the press had to scrutinize that...but never did.

Bush's service wasn't germaine to anything except smearing him.

You're half right. Kerry's campaign was "I'm a war hero," with and implied "and he isn't." Were that not the case, Kerry would never have made as much of an issue of his military serivce (which left questions even before the Swifties arrived) as he did. He never had in the past. The press was only too happy to take his lead and persue the "and he isn't part of it."

BTW, can you remember a single concrete plan on ANYTHING that the Kerry campaign laid out. I sure can't, but I can remember that he was in Vietnam.

My God, I'd never seen that photo of Kerry with a fake spray-on tan. He looks like a parody of Thurston Howell III on Gilligan's Island.

IOW, Dan claims he wants to do journalism in the public interest, but Big Journalism's self-interest is in what interests the public.

And those are two different things. Always were, and always will be. And Dan's track record with the "TANG Memo" fraud gives us no reason to be confident that his understanding of "the public interest" is wiser than yours or mine is.

What's most frightening is the fact that if the forger had not been so careless as to type the documents on a computer instead of finding an old typewriter, thus leaving incontrovertible proof of forgery in the use of "proportionally based fonts" (thank you 'BUCKHEAD'), this lie would be the accepted reality.

Personal computers and Microsoft Word are far more sophisticated than a 1970s typewriter, but using the latter to produce a document to pass for a product of the former is simply crude. Thank God it was a crude forgery.

Wow, reading the last bit about Mapes' "victory lap" at the office really says a lot about the MSM's incredible bias. They all thought they'd brought down Bush, and they were thrilled about it. Nice objectivity. Stinking parasites.

I'll bet Dan is working feverishly behind the scenes trying to find or create more "unimpeachable" sources to prove everyone else was wrong and he was correct.
