Streisand, Soros Back Lieberman Foe

Some famous people are trying to help Greenwich businessman Ned Lamont defeat three-term U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman in next month's primary.

Entertainer Barbra Streisand, actor Paul Newman, billionaire financier George Soros, television producer Norman Lear and singer Jackson Browne all contributed to Lamont's campaign, according to campaign finance data filed Saturday with the Federal Election Commission.

Streisand, Soros and Lear, producer of "All in the Family" and "Maude," each contributed $1,000. Newman, who lives in Westport, Conn., gave $2,100, while Browne, known for hits such as "Running on Empty" and "Lawyers in Love" contributed $500.

Lamont's campaign released a breakdown of contributions Monday; Lieberman's campaign has released totals but not yet provided details about who gave what.

Lamont has gained national attention by challenging Lieberman, who has come under fire from some Democrats for his support of the war in Iraq and a perceived closeness with congressional Republicans and President Bush. Recent public opinion polls have shown Lieberman in the lead, but Lamont has made headway.

In the past two months, Lamont has raised and spent $1.9 million -- largely thanks to the $1.1 million he contributed to himself. Lieberman raised $1.3 million in the same two months.

Some other familiar names on Lamont's list for the past quarter include syndicated sex advice columnist Dan Savage, who contributed $2,000, and actress Alexandra Paul, who played Lt. Stephanie Holden on the TV show "Baywatch." She gave $250.

Movie director and producer Richard Donner contributed $2,000. Donner directed the 1978 movie "Superman" and directed and produced all three "Lethal Weapon" movies.

Well, what he is seeing is just how insane the far left is about POWER AND CONTROL. They could not care less about America and its people -- they only want to be the ruling socialist party, controlling our lives and giving away America in the process, which includes our Constitutional freedoms.

Great platform to run on for President, right??? Or for anything for that matter.

Eating their own. I love it. One vote out of a million and he's branded. This is great stuff.

I see the ultra liberal, socialist Democrats have crawled out from under their slimy rocks to trash old Joe Lieberman for his support of the Iraq war and PresBush. Another sad day for the Democratic Party. Now that puts a smile on my face.

What's with Newman?

Not selling enough bbq sauce?

or protecting an illegal worker interest?

I for one cannot forgive Joe for what Gore/Loserman did with the military votes down in Florida. Joe sold his soul to them and spewed DNC talking points on all the pundit shows. Now that disloyalty is coming back in spades.

Politically, Paul Newman is to the left of Robert Redford. You just don't hear from him that often.

Barbra Streisand, actor Paul Newman, billionaire financier George Soros, television producer Norman Lear and singer Jackson Browne

The usual suspects.

Is the enemy (Lieberman) of my enemy (Streisand, Soros) my friend? I remember Bill Buckley's crusade to elect Lieberman instead of Lowell Weicker. There's talk of trying to recruit Lieberman to the Republican Party. We might as well since the CTGOP refuses to run a legit candidate or actively support any candidate who might run.

>>I guess Lieberman is starting to see just how loyal the 'Rats really are.<<

This happens when a candidate is too close to centrist for the base. The base either defeat him a candidate that can't win the general election or they split the party - either the way the base sacrifices the seat for a term to punish a disloyal member.

This is a decision Republicans will be facing and I hope they are smarter than Streisand and Soros.

I like Lieberman - I mean who doesn't he's a nice guy?

But its entirely possible to be too conservative for Barbara Streisand and yet not conservative enough to be a good Republican.

Lieberman is not as liberal as the RINO senators from New England (Snowe, Collins, Chafee), if we could get him in the GOP it would boost our majority if nothing else.

Why don't these two scumbags let the people of Connecticut decide who is best for them. Do Streisand and Soros live there? I think not.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE REPEAL THE 17TH AMENDMENT.

Lieberman could easily be lumped in with the RINOs in terms of ideology. I know that NJ Republicans are pulling for Tom Kean, Jr. who will be one more RINO.

IMHO, Lieberman is more desirable than MoveOn's favorite pantywaist, Ned Lamont. At least Joe supports the Iraq War. Maybe it is because of his love for Israel, but that's OK with me. Better to have Lieberman the Republican who can be influenced by the Senate GOP Leadership than Lamont the Socialist Democrat adding and abetting the Disloyal Opposition.

Streisand, Soros and Lear . . .each contributed $1,000. Newman. . . gave $2,100, . . .Browne. . . contributed $500.

These jerks spend more than that on dental floss.

I haven't been able to stand lieberman since his despicable speech "against" clintbilly and moanica; but I'd rather see him re-elected than his even more stupid, radical opponent.

If I thought Lieberman would be an actual convert and caucus with the Republicans I'd feel it was worth the risk for Repubs to support him.

But he's got a moral majority voting record of like minus 3 and he'd lose all his big donors. I can't see it happening.
