1. It sparks unusually vicious comment threads.
2. The fight between Israel and the Palestinians is over half a century old...
3.The conflict is fantastically complex...
4. punditry is heavily dominated by extremists on both sides.
5. posts that display any sense of sympathy for the Palestinians run the risk of provoking a storm of accusations of anti-semitism
6. It doesn't matter what we bloggers say.
7. It doesn't matter what the President of the United States says. Or the United Nations.
8. When two sides are this dead-set on killing each other, very little can get in the way.
9. no desire to get sucked into that no-win situation.
10. hope that war-fatigue sets in at some point.
Comments 6 through 10 are from Kos.
Amazing
"As long as they hate us more than they love their children there will be no peace"
Golda Meir.
"8. When two sides are this dead-set on killing each other, very little can get in the way."
I have to disagree on #8. If the Israelis really felt that way there would be no Palestinians.
How about the issue reveals how ignorant the left-wing bloggers really are about the issue and it's embarassing? Nah, nevermind, they have no shame.
Get it over with....Send every terrorist to Hell....the quicker the better.
I checked out Kos yesterday to check the 'buzz' on Israel... summed up... it wasn't really a topic of discussion. My take is they don't see any way to blame Bush on this... and that's what they seem to live for.
The real reason left wingnuts aren't blogging about it much is that their commentary would reveal their support for those who oppose Israel at every turn. Just check out some of the comments over at Dark Underworld.
Taking a stand or writing about it will split the left-wing right up the middle.
They can't afford that, and they know it. Hence, they are silent.
Excuse me, TWO? two sides?
Thats funny (comment #9), they love getting sucked in to the no win situation (in their minds) of Iraq and bashing their own president and their own country.
And the number #1 reason that liberals are not interested in the Israel/Palestine/Lebanon conflict is because they cannot bash Bush with the fever that they'd like to without looking like idiots.
Maybe reason #1 is because even lefty bloggers have a hard time being sympathetic to a movement of foreign trained and foreign armed men occupying Lebanon and the newly formed territory of "Palestine".... and now raining thousands of rockets down on Israeli cities while the "President" of Iran compares Israel to cancer and Hitler...?
Nah, there I go, trying to believe there is logic on the left. My bad.
LOL! because leftist blogs are usual islands of deferential civility in our coarse world.
2. The fight between Israel and the Palestinians is over half a century old...
Leftists blogs are always pimping for marxism, and that's over a century and a half old.
3.The conflict is fantastically complex...
This is a fair comment - it's refreshing for leftists to admit that they can't reason their way through complex problems.
4. punditry is heavily dominated by extremists on both sides.
And the left blogosphere eschews extremism in all its forms.
5. posts that display any sense of sympathy for the Palestinians run the risk of provoking a storm of accusations of anti-semitism
In other words, it should be OK to post all kinds of anti-Semitic drivel, but those nasty Jew-lovers always ruin it for everyone.
6. It doesn't matter what we bloggers say.
So why comment on anything at all ever? Odd comment from Zuniga, who apparently believes he can move mountains with his nancy yapper.
7. It doesn't matter what the President of the United States says. Or the United Nations.
But I thought the President and the USA were responsible for everything by helping Israel defend itself.
And I thought the USA wasn't allowed to lift a finger unless the UN tells it to.
These guys are straying from their talking points.
8. When two sides are this dead-set on killing each other, very little can get in the way.
LOL! Yes, it always disturbs me to see hundreds of Israeli four year olds marching with bandannas and toy bomber belts chanting slogans about how they would be happy to die as long as they were able to kill Arabs.
Both sides really are just mirror images of each other.
9. no desire to get sucked into that no-win situation.
As opposed to Kos' usual winning situation of being an America-hater who nonetheless lives in America.
10. hope that war-fatigue sets in at some point.
Ah yes, I'm sure that people whose religion is centered around jihad will eventually get tired of their entire culture and take up knitting or philately.
What tools the Left blogosphere are.
We're not deceived: they won't write about it because 90% of the comments made by Left-wingers to ME crisis posts will reveal the Left's deep seated hatred of Jews.
That's why.
Get any good insider stock tips while at Kos?
The Left is inherently anti-Semitic and they realize full well this would come out in blog postings and in comments. They therefore will not blog about Israel willingly.
Yeah, one side killing and the other side defending itself. Moral equivalence and all that.
Reading a 'blog is quite like reading Usenet just before it died. We all have opinions and they all stink except those that spend time and effort in the development and exposition of their opinion - and they don't 'blog.
No but I think I developed some kind of skin rash...
But I thought it was all Bush's fault?!?
/sarcasm
