BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Gov. Kathleen Blanco sued the federal government on Thursday in an ongoing dispute over Louisiana's share of federal royalties generated by oil production off the state's coastline.

The suit accuses the federal Mineral Management Service of disregarding the environmental damage caused by oil and gas exploration, particularly after the damage done to the coastline last year by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Blanco seeks an injunction blocking a scheduled Aug. 15 lease of 4,000 blocks in the western Gulf of Mexico for oil and gas exploration.

Can I sue the state of La for more than doubleing my homeowners insurance when I didn't have a claim from those storms last year?

In other words, this is about money only, and Blanco's lawsuit is nothing but a lie and a pretext wrapped inside of a fraud upon the court...

It is a known fact that offshore oil rigs have been a boon to the wildlife environment. The marine population thrives because the oil rigs are there.

This is the scheme that even some LA freepers have been advocating, where LA seeks to in effect slap a tax increase to all oil and gas produced in their state.

If this move is successful, LA will have a new revenue source, and thus ALL pending and pledged federal funds related to Katrina should immediately cease and be cancelled.

Can't have the cake and eat it, too.

I'm not so sure about the "wurstest" part. We in Arkansas are stuck with Huckabee. She is running firstest, though, in the stoopid column.

They is. Read up on the Tidewaters case.

Louisiana's greed sunk it years ago when Judge Perez reneged on a deal for 50% and tried for 100%. The case when to the Supreme Court and Louisiana lost.

If this move is successful, LA will have a new revenue source.........and the politicians and politically connected will not be able to control the drooling. Even if it is sucessful move, Louisiana will still be at the bottom of all the lists. Sad because there are many good citizens of that state - just not enough to drive out the robber barons.
