Wis. lawmakers want univ. instructor fired

More than 60 state lawmakers are urging the University of Wisconsin-Madison to fire an instructor who has argued that the U.S. government orchestrated the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

A letter sent Thursday and signed by 52 Assembly representatives and nine state senators condemns a decision to let Kevin Barrett teach an introductory class on Islam this fall.

UW-Madison Provost Pat Farrell launched a review after Barrett spoke last month on a talk show about his views that the terrorist attacks were the result of a government conspiracy to spark war in the Middle East. After the review, Farrell said Barrett was a qualified instructor who can present his views as one perspective on the attacks.

"I still have every expectation this will be a very positive educational experience for our students," Farrell said Thursday. "Some are upset about Mr. Barrett's viewpoints on 9/11 and don't want to pay much attention to what makes for a quality educational experience."

Republican Rep. Steve Nass said the lawmakers' letter, which called Barrett's views "academically dishonest," sends a strong message to top UW leaders.

"When 61 legislators condemn a decision by UW-Madison and demand the dismissal of Kevin Barrett, the leadership of the UW System operates at its own peril if it continues to ignore views of the taxpayers," Nass said in a statement.

Barrett has said Nass was "only interested in name-calling and witch hunting."

It is amazing only in that this witch hunt, like the Clinton impeachment one, turned up an actual witch...

This is nothing new, how about they audit the classes and see how many times Bush-bashing occurs...this is what should outrage the lawmakers.

It is refreshing to see that a greater number of our lawmakers are actually starting to listen to the Wisconsin citizens and not the liberal loonies of mad-town. I think the people up here are really getting an @ss-full of these moon-bats and are tired of listening to them p*ss and moan about freedom of speech all the while expecting the taxpayers to fund them.

Leftists believe that Bush set up 9-11 despite no evidence to that notion.

And disbelieve Iraq had WMDs despite all the evidence....

It would be more refreshing to hear that they were going to defund the University, at least in part, until he is dismissed.

This Lib instructor obviously didn't score well on the subliminal message part of the "Commie Propaganda Aptitude Test". Are the college boards not checking these scores anymore?

Barrett told a Milwaukee talk show host in June that he believed that the U.S. government used "controlled demolitions with explosives" on Sept. 11 to bring down the World Trade Center buildings and later said that the idea of a hijacked plane hitting the Pentagon was "preposterous."

He plans to discuss these beliefs over one week of the 15-week course for undergraduate students.

If they ran off the leftist moonbat professors at Madison (and every other state funded university in the country); a) do you think they'd be missed, and b) wouldn't it be great?

Let 'em live on their fat.

How in the world does someone like this get hired and get the name PROFESSOR? Students deserve their money back and should sue the state for fraud. They paid their money, but they didn't get an education. Why should they have to listen to crazy people who have gotten jobs they are not and cannot do - teaching college students anything about logical thought.

"Tenure was supposed to create an atmosphere of open debate and inquiry, but instead has created havens for talentless cowards who want to be insulated from life.

Rather than fostering a climate of open inquiry, college campuses have become fascist colonies of anti-American hate speech, hypersensitivity, speech codes, banned words and prohibited scientific inquiry. "

We need to develop a Zero tolerance for these A$$holes.

If they are professors, priests/preachers, lawmakers, marxist mediots or whatever, when they spout this BS, we hammer them until they decide to Move On.

I just heard this guy on Medved's show today and since someone's posted that he was on in July, I'm wondering if I heard a repeat.

This guy is a wacko in the first degree. Definitely tin-foil hat time. Do you know if they've stopped his appointment o U of Wisconsin. That guy is scary and I don't want him brainwashing any of our kids.

Also, anyone know anything about him - where was he raised? What religion was he before he converted to the religion of Beezlebub.

The Wisconsin lawmaker should tell the President of that university that their operating budget is under review. It might take 9 months or more to finish said review.

I hope they can do something. I found some info on this creep on some loser blog. The guy came from a family of lapsed "unitarians." What a joke; no wonder he turned Muslim.
