All Israeli teens go to a camp when they're 15 or 16 during the summer. It's called Gadna...(I'm not sure about the spelling). When I was 16, I did a summer tour of Israel and we spent a week at one of these camps. We had to get up at 5:00am and run with a gun. Then all other kinds of boot camp stuff. If you can imagine a bunch of JAPS (Jewish American Princesses) from New York doing this, then you'll know what it was like for me!!!!

I visited Israel for a couple weeks in mid-2001. Our group went to Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial museum, in Jerusalem. There a lot of IDF soldiers around, mixed men and women, in uniform with their rifles slung. One African-looking woman soldier really caught my eye, I am guessing most likely an Ethopian Jewish woman. Very, very gorgeous. Now I'm wishing I had my pics posted on the 'net.

I went to school here in Phoenix with a gal who was called up in '67. She got back just in time for most of the fighting to be over with, so she was detailed to pick up Egyptian prisoners because she was fluent in Egyptian. Nice gal. Fully qualified in automatic weapons and all kinds of ordinance. If I ever went into battle, I'd want her on my side.
