Nixon aide: Kerry not too swift (John Dean: '23% of America is Protofascist')
The Boston Herald ^ | July 23, 2006 | Dave Wedge

Posted on 07/23/2006 6:50:04 PM PDT by new yorker 77

Sen. John Kerry’s 2004 presidential hopes were sunk when he buckled under to “authoritarian” conservatives hellbent on smearing his military record as part of a larger “proto-facist” movement, says a former top White House aide whose testimony helped sink Richard Nixon during the Watergate scandal.

John Dean, a Republican who served as Nixon’s top counsel, said Kerry slipped up during the 2004 campaign against President Bush by not suing the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth when they published a book calling into question the Bay State senator’s Vietnam service.

“What most surprised me is that Kerry never did anything with the Swift boat attacks,” Dean said. “He waited so long, it was shocking. I thought he should have brought a defamation action against them and he would have succeeded.”

Dean compared the situation to a suit brought by the late Sen. Barry Goldwater following his failed 1964 run for president. Goldwater won a lawsuit against a magazine that published a poll of psychiatrists who said he was “crazy.”

Dean was in Boston this week promoting his new book, “Conservatives Without Conscience,” a harsh indictment of the current GOP power structure that paints Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and other top party leaders as dangerous “authoritarians” who have ignored the ideology’s founding tenets.

“About 23 percent of the American people are authoritarian conservatives,” Dean said. “It’s proto-fascist behavior. While we’re not a fascist nation, we’re too close (for) comfort. I’m trying to warn people.”

Dean, who fired his first salvo at the Bush White House with his last book, “Worse Than Watergate,” slams the administration on the war in Iraq, accuses officials of fear-mongering and criticizes Cheney’s opposition to a congressional measure to ban torture.

Asked what he thinks the president would have to say about his book, Dean said: “He doesn’t read books. He has trouble reading his one-sheet summary papers.”

John Dean and Keith Olbermann are two trees falling in the forest with no one else around.

More like two Moose farts.

You left out CYA. Other than that spot-on.

Liberal M.O.: If your existing dogma doesn't justify your partisan stance on any issue, modify it as needed. And don't forget to throw in some statistics and scholarly-sounding rhetoric that you pulled out of your posterior.

Something tells me this book hasn't and won't sell like an Ann Coulter book.

Roger that. Gotta drive them nuts, huh? LOL!

If John Dean can still get publicity over 30 years after he was hot news, does that mean we have decades of Cindy Sheehan to look forward to? Good grief.

making good cash of the Bush-haters

Lets face it. It's a cottage industry now. As long as these people are selling hate, the left is buying.

"“What most surprised me is that Kerry never did anything with the Swift boat attacks,” Dean said. "

The TRUTH is very powerful..
The ONLY thing Kerry could do to prove the Swift Boat Veterans were wrong -- would have been to SIGN his SF180 and to PUBLICLY release ALL his military, medical and DISCHARGE records....

He DIDN't do that - because he was lying...
It's as simple as that.

Dean was in Boston this week promoting his new book, “Conservatives Without Conscience,”

Dean's book should sell well up here in ThumbSuckingLiberalLand. I'll have to run right out and buy one....NOT !!!

Myself, I'm reading "The Brothers Bulger: How They Terrorized and Corrupted Boston for a Quarter Century", the story of how two sibling products of the early Boston housing projects became a powerful, corrupt (midget), Democrat politician, and the other, one of America's most prolific mass murderers (both are still at large).

Reading that kind of book helps me keep things in perspective here in BeanBrainedTown.

Nixon couldn't hold a candle to either of the Bulger brothers.

Dean should write a book entitled "Liberals Without Souls, Morals, Ethics, Bravery, or Honor".

Humm, that title is vaguely reminiscent of a few other books I have by a certain skinny almost blond (Mit den schönen Brüsten), whose name I won't mention, to avoid certain posting rules.

Aw shucks, I can't help myself. Here's on from her meatier days...

Absolutely right! He did not sue them because he knew that they were telling the truth. Actually, I have a lot to thank the SBVFTs for, besides helping to defeat John Kerry and "the Breck Girl" (who I am ashamed to say is from my state). It was through the Swifties that I discovered what is now my favorite pastime - internet blogging. I still have their forum on my "Favorites" tab and check in with them from time to time.

BTW, John Dean lost all credibility a long time ago.

Another smear-job from the bowels of this hack MSM-loving opportunist. John Dean and Joe Wilson have an enormous amount in common: both hateful, deranged psycho-leftists who have pretended to be bi-partisan and reasonable in order to smear all conservatives. Both married to leftist whores. Both mentally unbalanced and unreliable, the last people on earth to be trusted for any judgments about US national security, world events, etc. Both beloved by the MSM for bashing conservatives, but would be dropped like the proverbial hot potato if they weren't serving leftist purposes so well. Both shameless opportunists devoid of sound sense and judgment...... I could go on!!

Kerry didn't sue, because he knew the Swifties were telling the truth.

This episode is yet another reason not to vote for John McCain, also.

HE came out smearing the Swifties the FIRST day..and I bet he hadn't read it.

Yes, you nailed it. I attended a talk he gave back in 1977 at a local college and that was my gut response at the time.

If I recall correctly, the Swift Boat Veterans invited Kerry to sue them for defamation. But he didn't. Does John Dean really think this was because of poor campaign logistics?

"Authoritarian Conservatives?" "Proto-facists?"

If I didn't know better, I'd think Dean was your typical misguided, misinformed, mentally disordered, lawyer.

Oh, wait.....

I love the 23%.

Isn't amazing how libs are so exact and precise know just about everything about everything?

Dean's an idiot. Pretrial discovery would have been wonderful. And oh, I would have loved to see those 100 pages of Kerry's military record that he refuses to release to the public.

"If I'm not mistaken he did threaten a lawsuit and nothing ever came of it"
______________________________________________________________________________

A controversial documentary titled Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal,...sparked at least five politically charged lawsuits.

Now there’s only one.

In recent weeks, lawyers for the plaintiffs have dropped three libel suits brought by anti-war veterans.....

“The last-minute withdrawal of the lawsuits on the eve of these depositions suggests a great trepidation about what would come out at the depositions,” Clothier said.

Sherwood was also hit with a copyright infringement suit...
But that case was dismissed last year.

*** Now the only remaining suit is a defamation and civil rights suit brought by Sherwood himself against Kerry and his Pennsylvania campaign manager, John Podesta, that accuses them of conspiring to stop the film from being shown. ***

I guess John Dean never considered the idea that the Swift Boat Vets were correct in their assertions
