Bill Whittle !

This ping list is not author-specific for articles I'd like to share. Some for the perfect moral clarity, some for provocative thoughts; or simply interesting articles I'd hate to miss myself. (I don't have to agree with the author all 100% to feel the need to share an article.) I will try not to abuse the ping list and not to annoy you too much, but on some days there is more of the good stuff that is worthy of attention. You can see the list of articles I pinged to lately  on  my page.
You are welcome in or out, just freepmail me (and note which PING list you are talking about). Besides this one, I keep 2 separate PING lists for my favorite authors Victor Davis Hanson and Orson Scott Card.

Civilization was tied to another term, now likewise mocked, and that term is Progress.

The only way "progress" is not mocked, is if one is a "progressive," in which case, "progress" is made when one destroys progress.

Glad to clarify.

What's interesting is that my entire generation has been overshadowed by the whole Woodstock myth. Yes, there was a concert at Woodstock, and yes a lot of people showed up, but the majority of people my age who were there were upper middle class and rich college students who wanted to be hip and be 'involved' in something. Unfortunately, they were also in the position to get into influential areas of the culture when they finished college and started their working lives. As a result, the media has portrayed the entire generation born in the early to mid-50's as the hippie generation, when only a minority of them actually lived that lifestyle and retained those attitudes.

ask any combat vet, and he’ll tell you that only a sliver of the daily acts of sacrifice and heroism go reported, let alone recognized. For every Medal of Honor winner there are tens, perhaps hundreds, who have shown the same courage unsung. These people gave their lives for us…for this country and this Civilization. They gave their lives so we could live in the freedom, security and prosperity that alone allows us to be so callow, so cynical, and so relentlessly ungrateful to those who have sacrificed on our behalf.
They deserve posterity which is steadfast, faithful, respectful, and grateful. All who live after, are posterity. It is for us to pass respect down to the future.

I was so impressed by Bill's essays that after reading Courage and Power here on FR, I bought the collection called Silent America. Thanks for the ping. Another great essay!
