Fidel Castro hints at end to his presidency

Three weeks before his 80th birthday, Cuban President Fidel Castro has joked that he has no plans to be in power when he is 100 years old.
He was addressing 100,000 people who were marking the anniversary of the start of the 1953 Cuban Revolution.
Mr. Castro used his speech to make fun of the US, which has set up a fund of $80 million to "boost democracy" when the communist leader dies.
In power since 1959, Mr. Castro has so far outlasted nine US presidents.
Mr. Castro said more Cubans were reaching 100 thanks to his government's social services.
He said Cuba's little neighbours to the north had nothing to fear as he does not plan to be in office when he is 100.
The Cuban leader turns 80 on August 13.

McDonalds.
Mr. Castro said more Cubans were reaching 100 thanks to his government's social services.
Cuba must have the highest population of 100 year old
political prisoners in the world.

Sounds like he knows he won't last until a 100.
Until he drops dead, he is the glorious leader of the revolution that brought poverty, tyranny and misery to untold 100's of thousands and single handedly made Miami "Little Havana".
May he choke on his cigar and die a slow painful death

But hasnt outlasted Ted Kennedy, who has been "in power" since 1962. They have allot in common.

I moved to Gitmo, when I was 13. It was 1960. My dad was stationed there. I can't tell you how many times I saw Castro on B&W TV from Santiago. He would pound his podium for hours, some nights.
I watched him after the missle crisis, when I was returned from the states. His tone had changed. He never stopped our maid from coming to work, and she brought my dad quite a few stinky cigars.
I prefer Dominicans, but Castro's Cuba isn't struggling under the embargo. There are poor people around, just like in new York.
There are quite a few entrepreneurs...

This kind of statement really p----- me off. Castro is a dictator and continutes in office because he is president for life. Our system provides for elected Presidents. There is no moral equivalence.
