Keeping the trust is the first order (Minutemen-Simcox)
Jewish World Review ^ | July 28, 2006 | Wesley Pruden

Posted on 07/28/2006 3:05:06 AM PDT by Anti-Bubba182

The first thing a Minuteman has to learn is to keep his powder dry. The bigger the powder magazine, the bigger the risk of getting it all wet.

This is the lesson that Chris Simcox, the president of the volunteers on the border, who have almost single-handedly aroused the nation's conscience about the tide of illegal immigration, seems to have missed in basic training.

The "powder" is the hundreds of thousands of dollars that Americans have contributed to the Minutemen, who have been exceedingly helpful to the U.S. Border Patrol. The careful, rigorous reporting of Jerry Seper in The Washington Times reveals that the Minutemen management has not made its records of fundraising and finances public in more than a year, raising the hackles and suspicions of several top Simcox aides. Some of them have resigned, protesting the loose management of the money...."[snip]

"... All the more reason that Chris Simcox and his lieutenants must account for the money and explain what the Declaration Alliance, the grandly named political public-relations firm in Herndon, has done with the money it has collected and disbursed in the name of the Minutemen. The Declaration Alliance is the creation of Alan Keyes, the smooth-talking conservative activist and sometime pol, and is meant to provide mass mailings, public relations and "a fully accredited and independent audit." So far no one in the Minutemen management has said how much has been paid to the Declaration Alliance, and what the Minutemen got for the money...."

This is preposterous! All of the sudden, the fact that our borders are wide open to anyone with willpower and the legs to walk - is deemed superfluous to how a few thousand dollars was spend by a volunteer organization? What about the federal government's legal obligation to secure the borders and enforce the laws - which is apparently too much for the federal government!

I can imagine the logistics of keeping that group running is a nightmare, especially on a volunteer basis. Unless there is proof of something nefarious I would not be too concerned. This is simply another attack against a group trying to keep America strong.

That's a false dichotomy. The federal government's abject failure--refusal!--to seal the border doesn't excuse the MCDC and Simcox from their promises.

. . . a few thousand dollars . . .

How much?

I agree with you, if the money went for prostitutes, parties and outragous trips thats one thing. I wish people were as concerned and outraged as to what our goverment does or doesn't do with our money.

"I wish people were as concerned and outraged as to what our goverment does or doesn't do with our money."

Good point, even if these guys paid for prostitutes, parties and trips the money was still better spent dollar for dollar than our taxes.

I think people should be forced to pay their taxes AFTER its deposited. It hits you MUCH harder having to give up that 30% after the money hits your account. Might help people realize just how much money is wasted.

The drumbeat for accountability is only going to get louder. The fact is, Simcox is sitting on over a million dollars and has built two miles of a five-strand barbed-wire fence that a 1500 pound bull could knock down.

One donor mortgaged his house, others have poured substantial sums into an effort that has yielded very little.

One troubling feature of the past accounting from the Declaration Alliance is that only a nickel out of every dollar goes to the stated purpose of the donation.

If the same processes are in place here, questions about the disposition of the other 95 cents must be asked and answered.

How efficient they are will be followed. They won't be able to hide with fronts.

These reporters really are lazy. They should open the 990's and see how the money is being spent already. That's a good indication how the Minuteman money will be spent..more flyers, more emails and some barb wired fencing (probably MORE symbolic fencing will be planned now that the fundraising cat is out of the bag).

You hardly seem concerned about the 10+ billion dollars that illegals cost the California taxpayers each year.

Your slip is showing.

Seem concerned? What kind of conservative are you, pining for expressions of my feelings? Should I rend my garments just to convince the likes of you?

I don't pay taxes in California and I have no vote there, they can make themselves into whatever kind of socialist hellhole they want, it effects me little.

"Seem concerned..." That's hilarious. Like I'm supposed to supply a YouTube link to video of me weeping about the Cali taxpayer.

Your slip is showing.

I don't wear a slip, sister.

Did you contribute to the MM fund?
If you're not concerned about CA taxpayers, and didn't contribute to the MM fund, what's the point of your post?

Just curious.

More anti-minutemen rhetoric from the anti-minutemen brigade.

Why of course he did not contribute. He does not want any support for the MMDC published on FreeRepublic, even though there are links to Keyes groups on the front page of FreeRepublic.

See you are too stupid to make ideological decisions or funding decisions on your own and need to be instructed on who to vote for, what to think, whom to associate with, what policies to support especially when your views collide with their Alienist party position.

They are upset because someone gave 120K to Simcox instead of a competing organization. They repeat the same sorry discredited and unsubstantiated attacts on a volunteer organization, yet turn a blind eye to federal policy because they are affiliated closely with the party currently in power.

You can't be a conservative according to this gang.

Dont attempt to think outside the box, have a contrarian opinion, support other than "party approved" thoughts groups ideology on the immigration topic or you will be branded racist and any adverb they can think of at the moment.

They have a pretty baseless foundation to attack from, but can rehash the same arguments for months on end.

Too bad they are losing in the court of public opinion and reality.

You are still full of it. "One donor mortgaged his house, others have poured substantial sums into an effort that has yielded very little."

If you read the MMDC blog the person who donated his money knows where the cash is and what it's to be used for and has no qualms about it. Competing minutemen/border groups got their panties in a wad about it. As well as you, it seems.

Do some research before rehashing old unsubstantiated undocumented slimes. Especially if you claim to be morally superior to the MSM.

Bringing down Simcox already has taken over a month. It's not as easy taking down a conservative organization as it was a document fraudster like Rather. It's going to take until November, and by then they will have put up alot more fence.

I don't think there are any 990s available for this group--and Simcox will then form ANOTHER group, as he's done already. Lather, rise, repeat...

Pruden's one of the editors at the Washington Times. Nice try.

Nobody's trying to take down anybody.

These questions will continue until they are answered.

Open the books.
