I refuse to fight a battle I do not believe in. Unlike you I believe the minimum wages needs to be increased, slowly.

I would like to see the minimum wage indexed to inflation with yearly increases to reflect this.

This could cause economic havoc.

It's a huge issue. The Republicans knock it down and the Dems pick it up during the campaign. Just hammer away at it. The subtext being: vote dem and get a pay increase.

"And I have always thought it best to put forth good policies that benefit the majority of Americans as a primary goal of both parties."

That is our point. Increasing the minimum wage or even having a minimum wage is very bad economics for everyone, including the poor, and that is why fiscal conservatives are against the minimum wage--it hurts the poor and everyone because it slows and hurts economic growth. Economic growth is the best tool for making everyone's standard of living go up, including the poor. That is also why we are against socialism, the welfare state, and everytyhing else that is supposed to help the poor--it actually hurts the poor.

Why does everyone seem to concede that the federal government has a say in what wage rates are paid in the private sector? ---

****

Says it all...........

Most people don't make minimum wage, and thus I don't think most people think it is going to make their wages go up. I don't think it is the issue that the democarts hope it is. Remember, the democrats are still preaching Karl Marx class warfare, and the minimum wage is part of that agenda. That class warfare argument has lost much of its appeal.

Minimum wages increases are inflation and would add to inflation! I really wish people would think things through./

Also, don't forget that the democrats have been using this issue for several election cycles without a winning result. We have not raised the minimum wage in a long time.

I disagree. I have always looked favorably on how Theordore Roosevelt manage economic and foriegn policy. That is why I frequently call my self a Teddy roosevelt Republican

No I would increase the minimum wage by .25 cents a year or the rate of inflation which ever is higher.

Whichever is higher? What possible justification can exist for increasing it at a rate faater than inflation? Are entry-level workers 20 years from now worth more than entry-level workers today?

It would all end up balancing out in the end.

There is the hope/assumption that a rising minimum wage will lift all salaries close to it. Couple the minimum wage with gas company profits and you have five good paragraphs of a stump speech.

The republicans need to point to one concrete thing that they've done that voters feel every day.

"I disagree. I have always looked favorably on how Theordore Roosevelt manage economic and foriegn policy."

If you think the government should manage the economy, you are a liberal at heart and on the wrong forum. Furthermore, you don't understand basic economics or don't want to deal with reality. Liberals often do this--base their ideology on idealism that is not based on reality.

Increasing the minimum wage simply increases inflation (among other things...)

(Having not read the letter...)

What they should do is tell the House to delete the minimum-wage statute.

It would also eliminate alot of "illegal" problems, never mind be fair.

C'mon let's just start all over and say - $100 per hour minimum. That'll close the border!
