Just read about half of this thread. Saw the conference and noticed a few things:

1. Blair can talk circles around a whirling dervish. The caption typist could hardly keep up with him. He has tremendous courage of his convictions, knows and understands the backstory, and just lets it flow. Bravo.

2. The press is obnoxious. All of them. I didn't see/hear one thoughtful comment or question. All were more interested in bolstering their left-wing credentials by coming across hostile and confrontational.

3. Blair spelled it out as much as he is going to when he said Syria and Iran have a choice: join the community of nations or face the consequences (we all know which one they'll pick).

4. Bush and Blair both trying to rally the international troops to back them up in giving Lebanon back to the Lebanese.

5. Their comments seemed to be partly in answer to anyone who is demanding an immediate cease-fire. I.e., we can't just stop the present conflict at any cost and then have to deal with the underlying problem later. In fact, Bush said something like "If we did, you'd all be back here asking why we didn't solve the underlying problem."

6. Funniest line, if one can even laugh at a time like this: Blair calling the ideology of the Revolutionary Guards reactionary.

Also riddle me this, Syria and Hussein's Iraq as you stated are/were secular Baathist yes, but why are/were the Sunnis prevalent in those "secular" countries?

Osama is a Sunni, any coincidence there or should we not commit "genocide" against those who praised airplanes slamming into buildings and killing civilians thousands of miles away?

They are not mutually exclusive. von Clausewitz said, “War is nothing more than the continuation of politics by other means.”

In the case of Syria, about 75% of the population is Sunni and another 15% Christian. In Iraq, Sunnis comprise about 40% of the population [the Kurds are Sunnis as well]. In both cases, whether Sunni or Shi'a, the real reason why both were secular has to do with oppressive dictators who would deal with any opposition, religious or otherwise.

Osama is a Sunni, any coincidence there or should we not commit "genocide" against those who praised airplanes slamming into buildings and killing civilians thousands of miles away?

Khomeini was a Shi'a. Militant Islamic fundamentalists are not confined to one sect of Islam, although Whabbism as practiced in Saudi Arabia, the home of UBL, is among the most radical and conservative forms of the religion.

The vast majority of mulsims are not radicals.

If Israel accepts this kind of solution, what's your beef?

You're wrong on all counts.
