Which islands are in the Greater Antilles and Lesser Antilles?
The West Indies are composed of the islands of the Caribbean Sea and can be divided into the Greater Antilles and the Lesser Antilles.
The Greater Antilles are the four largest islands in the northwestern portion of the Caribbean Sea and include Cuba, Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), Jamaica, and Puerto Rico.

The Lesser Antilles include the smaller islands of the Caribbean - the Virgin Islands and the Windward Islands and Leeward Islands.

Let's hope it hits full force solely on Hugo Chavez's palace and misses everyone else.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
1030 PM EDT SAT JUL 29 2006

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

THE TROPICAL WAVE AND ASSOCIATED AREA OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED ABOUT
800 MILES EAST OF THE SOUTHERN WINDWARD ISLANDS HAS CHANGED LITTLE
IN ORGANIZATION DURING THE LAST SEVERAL HOURS. ALTHOUGH CONDITIONS
ONLY APPEAR MARGINALLY FAVORABLE FOR DEVELOPMENT...THIS SYSTEM
STILL HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION.

SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY ASSOCIATED WITH A WESTWARD MOVING
TROPICAL WAVE CONTINUES OVER THE NORTH CENTRAL CARIBBEAN. THERE
ARE NO SIGNS OF ORGANIZATION...AND ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT...IF
ANY...SHOULD BE SLOW TO OCCUR. NEVERTHELESS...THE WAVE HAS THE
POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL AND FLASH FLOODING OVER
PORTIONS OF PUERTO RICO AND HISPANIOLA AS IT CONTINUES WESTWARD AT
15 TO 20 MPH.

ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL STORM FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED THROUGH
MONDAY.

I've been watching this one all week. If it hangs together until it reaches the Caribbean, it has a chance. It's not in a good environment right now to strengthen in the next couple of days.

There's a lot of dry air over that part of the Atlantic right now.

But, then again, we had very few Cape Verde storms last year - they tended to develop over the Western part of the Atlantic basin.

Quoting from wikipedia:

In meteorology, a tropical cyclone is a storm system with a closed circulation around a center of low pressure, fueled by the heat released when moist air rises and condenses. The name underscores their origin in the tropics and their cyclonic nature (circulation that is counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern). They are distinguished from other cyclonic storms such as nor'easters and polar lows by the heat mechanism that fuels them, which makes them "warm core" storm systems.

Depending on their strength and location, there are various terms by which tropical cyclones are known, such as tropical depression, tropical storm, hurricane and typhoon.

Well, I will point out that this happens every time we pressure Israel to give up land for peace. Flame away. I'm wearing my flame-retardant suit tonight.

The shear isn't too bad, but the dry air has been killing each of these waves so far. This one has the best chance of any of the waves coming off Africa so far this year, but it surely won't be the last.

So far, it's been incredibly quiet compared to last year. The global warming freaks must be furious.

Where is FEMA with their free trailers and $2000 debit cards?

I demand to be pre-compensated for any potential damage I may receive from this storm!

Evacuate me now!

It won't hit Venezuela. The Coriolis effect will cause the potential tropical storm to curve northwards, like this:

Yea, I thought about that and not that I want it to hit Venezuela. But a little wishful thinking it would hit Hugo Chavez lift him into the storm and swoosh him out to sea never to be heard from again.

Maybe Hugo could go yachting in the Caribbean for the next few days.
