Thats far from the issue. Mr. Lieberman is not just a senator who works well with members of the other party. ...., he has become one of the Bush administrations most useful allies....
Mr. Lieberman prides himself on being a legal thinker and a champion of civil liberties. But he appointed himself defender of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and the administrations policy of holding hundreds of foreign citizens in prison without any due process. He seconded Mr. Gonzaless sneering reference to the quaint provisions of the Geneva Conventions. He has shown no interest in prodding his Republican friends into investigating how the administration misled the nation about Iraqs weapons. There is no use having a senator famous for getting along with Republicans if he never challenges them on issues of profound importance.
If Mr. Lieberman had once stood up and taken the lead in saying that there were some places a president had no right to take his country even during a time of war, neither he nor this page would be where we are today. But by suggesting that there is no principled space for that kind of opposition, he has forfeited his role as a conscience of his party, and has forfeited our support.
Mr. Lamont, a wealthy businessman from Greenwich, seems smart and moderate, and he showed spine in challenging the senator while other Democrats groused privately. He does not have his opponents grasp of policy yet. But this primary is not about Mr. Liebermans legislative record. Instead it has become a referendum on his warped version of bipartisanship, in which the never-ending war on terror becomes an excuse for silence and inaction. We endorse Ned Lamont in the Democratic primary for Senate in Connecticut.

And The NY Times just keeps spewing forth scum.
The NY Times has just come out in support of the lunatic, ultar-leftwing, anti-American Kos faction of US politics. It is beyond belief.
Why should we expect any less from the official newspaer of al qaida?
OK for Republicans to become enlightened "moderates" or "centrists," but heaven forbid if a Rat becomes one...
Hey Joe...what do you think of your decision to be a liberal leader?
The fact that his positions are hard to differentiate from those of Abdul Abdul Pigdog are proof of that "moderation",no doubt.
destructive Bush tax cuts?
Are they still unaware that this is the a hell of a lot better economy than we had under Bubba?
"...., he has become one of the Bush administrations most useful allies...."
Liar man has a lifetime SEVENTEEN PERCENT ACU rating. To the scumbag who wrote this that means he is one of Bush's "useful allies.."
It is shiite like this that we have to fight through to save America from the Time's terrorist buddies, but we WILL.
"He has shown no interest in prodding his Republican friends into investigating how the administration misled the nation about Iraqs weapons. There is no use having a senator famous for getting along with Republicans if he never challenges them on issues of profound importance."
Why is a smear against Bush about an event now done of such high importance? That is lunacy.
NYTimes endorsement is the Democrats going off the cliff.
I see this as a jump the shark moment.
They do despicable things all the time. But they have excuses. Right to know. Freedom of speech. Presenting balance views. Rationalization, etc.
But here they are throwing away a main stream respected DEMOCRAT just because he doesn't hate Republicans. And because he gets along- although usually disagrees on many policies- with the President of the United States.
WOW, again.
Lieberman gets the WoT... therefore he's a Bush lackey. Un-freakin-believable.
I don't agree with Lieberman on anything except he understands the stakes in the global war with islamofascists. The rest won't make any difference if we lose this war.
Now there's a man bites dog story, the NYTimes endorsing another lunatic leftist. I'm shocked!
If I'm not mistaken, Ed Koch was in the same boat. He endorsed W for president on the basis that if the W.O.T is lost, nothing else matters. He was vilified......as is happening to Lieberman.
I agree that this is a "jump the shark moment". Most long-time Times readers stick with the paper out of habit. I expect to see many readers deserting the Times at last.
Heyyyyyyy!
Over the years the Times railed against negative campaigning, character assasination and hateful language and for emphasis on the issues and in a single editorial they violate all their "principles".
and this is unexpected?? the Slimes is feeling the heat and like many of the rat politicians hanging on by a thread, must pander to the lunatic left...
