Look, genius, where do the Coke bottlers in India get their water? Norway?

You still don't get it do you? What does it matter where the water comes from? The business of BIS is to ensure that whatever is put on the shelf for public consumption is safe. If its not then its goes off the shelf. End of story.

I have no idea what the overall condition of Indian water supply is, but I doubt it's terrific. Maybe all the photos of people washing their clothes in the Ganges are fakes.

You live in the world of stereotypes and I live here in India and know a hell lot better about the water supply here. I am not saying the water supply is excellent. The quality of water here is as good as you can afford to have. For those who cant afford clean drinking water its bad enough for them. Fortunately I can afford the quality I want. And if I am paying Rs.15 for 300ml then I expect something that would at least measure up to consumable standard and the last thing I expect is some foreign company weaseling its away into my wallet and shoving a pesticidal drink down my throat that I am not even aware of what deadly stuff I am consuming. If I am paying money for it, I expect the quality and the safety standards and I demand it. I dont deserve to drink the poisonous shit from a foreign company that can live up to the bare minimum safety standard only because I live in a "poor third world country" and the rivers in my country is polluted.  I dont want excuses or alibis or some moronic remarks about about the general safety of water supply in India. If your stuff fails the test then you pack your crap and get the hell out. No amount of hollering about "protectionism" is likely to help. Gone are the days when India would get scared by such theatrics.

I'm repeating myself here, but here's the story of this story.

Someone, (we don't know who, but let's guess, perhaps a domestic producer of soft drinks?) brings a suit claiming caffeine and aspertame are dangerous chemicals in Coke and Pepsi.

Never mind that caffeine is consumed in massive quantities in other Indian beverages, and I assume aspertame is available as well. Where's the lawsuit against Sweet and Low?

That didn't work, so they attempted the pesticide angle. They got a private group to come up with some research. Not a government group, a private group. Who knows how they're funded or what their real agenda is.

Then this group found two judges who ordered the soft drink companies two months to reveal the recipe for their syrup.

They could have ordered tests of their syrup for pesticides, but no, they want the secret recipe. Now why is that?

It has nothing to do with pesticides. It has everything to do with the companies obvious refusal to provide that.

They know Pepsi and Coke won't do that which will force them out of the country. Just as originally intended.

Hmmmm nice story. Very creative but I dont have time for such fairy tales. Cuz thats all you guys have got. Some conspiracy theories or some far fetched fairy tales. The theme being the same ......"communist" Indian government is doing this to kick out the American companies. Both Pepsi and Coke have been failing the the tests for quite some time now and in a number of cities. It was only a matter of time before they got banned. Too bad they didn't heed the warnings. Thought they could take advantage of the corrupt system and still stay in business. This time their luck ran out.

I don't really care that you're kicking our products out of the country, but your stupid lies as to why you're doing it are just stupid.

We already know who the real liars are.

In the meantime, have a BIG glass of water.

Yes and the water at my home is safer then whatever you drink. Trust me.

Why did they demand the recipe?

You chose not to answer that and called it a fairy tale. Of course, it's in the story, but never mind facts.

You drink your wonderful water in your house. It's better than mine, you say. Of course, in your next post you criticize me and other Americans for claiming that our stuff is the best ever.

What a hypocrite you are.
