Bolton refused to comment on the text, but an official with knowledge of the document said the draft calls for a “full cessation of violence” between Israel and Hezbollah, but would allow Israel the right to launch strikes if Hezbollah attacks it.

So Hezbollah will stop shooting long enough to reload and allow apaper tiger of a peacekeeping force to come in. Then Hezbollah will resume their attacks, right over the peacekeepers' heads if need be.

So is the admin caving to pressure?

Or is Olmert reluctant to finish what Hezbollah started, and 43 is just accepting the inevitable?

Contrary to popular opinion, I believe Israel is losing because of the rules they are fighting under. Right now they are destroying infrastructure and taking land, but the rocket attacks have not stopped. Once the fighting ends Israel will withdraw, international aid will flow to rebuild the area, the terrorists will walk back in from Syria and they will rearm.

In the muslim countries they only respect strength. The terrorists will be viewed as strong because they survived and odds are the terrorists will gain power in the govt. Israel will be right back in the same situation 15 years from now and they will have better weapons.

Caving??

Will bet you that Israel will interpret Hezbollah PREPARATIONS for an attack, as an attack.

What does Bush say? After 9-11 and all the prior terror attacks, we're not sitting back waiting to be attacked , we're taking the fight to the terrorists where they hide and plan and plot and prepare their attacks, to hit them BEFORE they can hurt us.

Neither, IMO.

From what I understand, there is no timetable proposed for a cease fire, Israel is not bound by it if attacked, and the proposal does not call for Israel to withdraw its troops from Lebanon.

I'd guess that France is now willing to let Israel clear out the buffer zone before they send in their own troops.

Oh Frabulous Joy! And the French get to keep on deluding themselves that they are a superpower and relevent on the world stage. The thing that gets me about us being involved at all is that I always figure that we will be expected to do the most heavy lifting and/or foot the brunt of the bill.

Yeah, but if the Hezbos stop shooting, and I bet they will, Israel will be pressured to stop its assault on them.

Sure, like Israel is just gonna sit there and WATCH for x number of years while that happens.

Not this time.

And in the meantime, there's coming a reckoning between the West plus Saudi, Egypt and Jordan Sunni Arabs AND the Crazed Shiite Persians of Iran.

Over the nuclear issue plus whatever else is out there on the table...

Oh, I'll just bet France is willing. Then the Hezbos can come in right behind Israel and set up shop again. The only way this will work is if the IDF stays put while a force that is ready, really and able to shoot back comes in to take the IDF's place. And I won't hold my breath waiting for our so-called allies to go along with that.

Not if that's ALL that ever happens, because (per Israel) Hez cannot and will not be left in place with all those thousands of rockets they can shoot off at Israel whenever they choose.

That's going back to the exact status quo...a non-starter.

Not to mention the kidnapped soldiers are still kidnapped...

"Sure, like Israel is just gonna sit there and WATCH for x number of years while that happens."

How will they stop it? The terrorists can walk back in anytime. They don't wear uniforms and they look like everybody else. They can sneak the weapons a little at a time.

Boy I hope this is true, but I don't see how we are going to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons and once they have them everything changes.

Officials: Israel's stance on UN resolution to be decided within days or weeks

Senior state officials in Jerusalem referred to the draft resolution that was being formed at the United Nations Security Council regarding a cessation of violence between Israel and Hizbullah. The officials said that the decision on Israel's stance would be made "within days or weeks."

Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni held intensive talks over the weekend on the ceasefire issue, including with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. (Ronny Sofer)

I'm not, but be careful you get caught up in the hype that Israel is all powerful and will destroy it's foe. It doesn't appear they will be able to. They are not fighting an enemy that forms in a battlefield. They are fighting an enemy that blends into the civilian population and uses them for cover. The muslims view the terrorists as the good guys even though their actions are the reason all the grief has befallen them.

Israel is trying to minimize civilian casualties to avoid looking too bad in the pr war.

Agree. And, I'm gussing that GW does, too.

Read the "agreement". IMO, it gives Israel another month to do what it needs to do to keep her people safe.

The UN is giving Hezbollah a chance to re-arm. Why are we letting them do this?

at which time, the media and terror lovers will AGAIN, call for ANOTHER cease fire......and go back to the status quo............

I read yesterday that Israel would not cease fire unless their two soldiers, Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, were returned to them by Hizb'allah. However, what of Gilad Shalit, who was kidnapped by Hamas?

My feeling is it depends on the condition of the Israeli troops, if you know what I mean..,
