Elian Gonzalez wishes Castro well
Herald Sun ^ | 7 August 2006

ELIAN Gonzalez, the Cuban boy who became the celebrated object of a 2000 US-Cuba tug-of-war wished Cuban leader Fidel Castro a speedy recovery from surgery.

"We send you this letter so that you know that we are concerned about your health," Elian Gonzalez, now 13, said in a letter also signed by five other children in his family and published today in the official newspaper, Juventud Rebelde.

A week ago, Mr Castro, 79, handed power "temporarily" to his younger brother, Defence Minister Raul Castro, while undergoing surgery for intestinal bleeding.

In November 1999, Elian, who was six at the time, was plucked from the sea off Florida's coast after an overcrowded motorboat capsized en route from Cuba, killing his mother and 10 others seeking to enter the United States illegally.

Elian's relatives in the Cuban American community in Miami laid claim to the boy and refused to allow him to return to his father in communist-run Cuba.

In 2000, heavily armed agents broke into the Miami home of Elian's uncle after then-US attorney-general Janet Reno ordered the boy be returned to his father, who was allowed to fly to Miami to pick up his son.

Elian's return to Cuba came as a hard-fought political boon to Mr Castro, who leads the Americas' only one-party communist country, for which illegal emigration is an embarrassing everyday reality.

The boy and his father became national celebrities, with Mr Castro attending the boy's birthday parties and the father being elected to the legislature.

BJ and Reno stand forever condemned for their actions in returning Elian to communist Cuba to be used as a propaganda tool of a filthy despot!

Maybe Raul Castro can hand off to Elian Gonzalez for the next tenure of office? He would be YOUNGER.

The sad thing is that the Castro-loving liberals point to Elian's life now and say "See, Cuba isn't so bad"...as if life is that great for ALL Cuban children, not just the one that the regime uses in it's attempts to embarrass the US.

If either the former Attorney Corporal or the Most Ethical President In History had a conscience, they'd be overcome with shame and remorse for what they did to that kid.

For me, Elian Gonzalez and the Kelo vs. New London decision stand out as defining American liberalism.

When will the majority catch on?

Hitler's Youth, when they wanted favors for their families, did not sign their letters to him "Down with Hitler!" either.

"We send you this letter so that you know that we are concerned about your health"

P.S., ... thank you for the rice cooker. We have it prominently displayed on the hood of our 1958 Chevy, and we are confident that once you get back on your feet you will send us some rice.

What can one expect from a completely brainwashed little boy. At least, he and his father are not among the ones that are starving and have a nice roof over their heads. Whereas most barely a roof over their heads and are starving. I understand one of the hurricanes last yr did most homes in...in the path of that hurricane...so those poor souls don't even have roofs over their heads...

Cuba is a disgrace...We Americans take much better care of our animals than castro takes care of the cuban people...

So let me get this straight :)

The boy writes a letter and then the media finds out about it?

How did the media know that this boy sent a letter?

Why would the nation announce this?

Out of alllll the letters that Fidellyyy got this one stood out?

100% BS

100% Propaganda.
