Animal Rights Group Claims Credit for Botched Arson Attempt- (07/31)

The Animal Liberation Front (ALF) web site is claiming responsibility for a failed arson attempt in Los Angeles.

On June 30, an incendiary device, intended for the home of a UCLA psychiatry professor, was placed at the wrong address. Fortunately, for the elderly homeowner the device did not detonate and no one was injured.

ALF claims that the intended target of the explosive device was keeping monkeys to study "psychological, psychiatric and social problems such as Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, substance abuse, criminality and violence."

Arson investigators stated that had the device functioned properly, the 70-year-old homeowner would have had a difficult time escaping.

It is exactly this type of reckless crime that has led the FBI to list animal rights terrorism as one of the largest domestic terrorism threats in the United States. The press officer of the ALF, Jerry Vlasak, recently declined an FBI invitation to speak about animal rights activism at FBI headquarters in Quantico, Virginia.

Vlasak and his wife,Pamelyn Ferdin, were convicted of illegally demonstrating outside the home of a Los Angeles city animal service employee.

Kind of reminds me of those PEACE activists that would kill you if you disagree with them.

ALF is supposed to be all about compassion, non-violence towards animals -- But of course it's okay to kill a human.

I don't often recommend "Rolling Stone" magazine to fellow FReepers, but the current issue has a very good article about how the Bush administration recognized the animal liberationist fanatics as domestic terrorists and organized mulit-jurisdictional Fed/local task forces to track them down and punish them to the fullest extent of the law.

It seems that they got some real results this time. The actual bomb-throwers turned out to be few in number, and, confronted with adult-size prison sentences, the ones they caught squealed like Ned Beatty and they were rolled up efficiently. The long sentences they were slapped with have undoubtedly had a chilling effect on the radical chic appeal of "monkey-wrenching." Of course, there are always a few remaining to be dealt with.

Looks like they thought the professor might be getting too close to finding a treatment for their mental disease.

Vlasak and his wife, the former child actress Pamelyn Ferdin, are both directors of a militant “direct action” Los Angeles group called the Animal Defense League (ADL-LA).

Ferdin herself is the president of SHAC USA, a violent animal rights group described by the United States Department of Justice as a “domestic terror threat.”

And Vlasak has stumped publicly for SHAC, appearing at rallies and protests in support of the group’s “no compromise” plan to rid the world of animal laboratories.

Vlasak has personally been arrested several times for animal-rights-related activity...

It seems ALF and ELF members would be a good group to study psychotic and social disorders. Let's catch them and make them "volunteer".

Just goes to show you how stupid these people are. Half of the west is burning. How hard would it be to start a fire?

Jerry Vlasak was defending his 2003 statement (made as a PCRM spokesperson) that political assassination "could be used quite effectively from a pragmatic standpoint ...

Great Britain has banned Vlasak and his wife (former child actress Pamelyn Ferdin) because of this and other threats.

"Vlasak and his wife,Pamelyn Ferdin, were convicted of illegally demonstrating outside the home of a Los Angeles city animal service employee."

Crazy world. Pamelyn Ferdin was a child actress in the late 60's and 70's. Made appearances on Bewitched, Andy Griffith Show, The Monkees, and Star Trek to name a few.
