WASHINGTON DC -- 25 U.S. Senators are asking that the U.S. president supports the democratically elected Serbian government.
The letter argues that Serbia’s role is of vital importance for the future of South-Eastern Europe and America’s regional interests and that Belgrade has grown into a strong U.S. regional partner.
“In order to help transform Serbia, the U.S. should support the reforms in the military and the security sectors, encourage cooperation with the Serbian Army and enabling its officers to attend military colleges and courses in the U.S.”, the letter said.
The Senators remind that it is Serbia’s strategic goal to join the European and the Euro-Atlantic community and state that the Serbian government has once again expressed its strong dedication to the regional stability when it accepted the democratic will of Montenegro to become independent. “However, extremist groups in Kosovo are attempting to pressure Serbia in a way that would lead to destabilization. Serbian authorities are asking that we do not withdraw our support at this vital moment. NATO led KFOR must stay in Kosovo until it is clear that the government there can provide security for all citizens”, the U.S. Senators said in their letter.
“We strongly urge you to support President Boris Tadić and the democratically elected Serbian government”, the letter concludes.

Your life is fully vested in proving that you can locate Serbia, BiH and Kosovo on a map. That includes knowing how to properly spell the provinces, cities and mountain ranges.
why don't you just admit your frustration in not being a good soldier while you were in, never recieving at least a Letter of Appreciation, ARCOM, or a GCM frustrates you. Kinda makes you wish you had a girlfriend to release that pent up frustration, ehh?

No angle other than ensuring the facts get their fair shot, and my stake is simply continuing the thread of what initially brought me onto Freerepublic in the first place - taking issue with Serbs who bitch about how America is wronging them, instead of honestly looking at the reasons behind America's treatment of Serbia.
Not as interesting as your postulated hypotheticals, I know, but then it all comes back to what I said about you living in a fantasy world.
Look around you, Hopie. It is why you are all alone. The other "screw the Serbs" people have all gone home. We are on to a new war now --the war on terror -- and Serbia is a necessary ally in it. Live with it!
And, again, I draw your attention to the fact that Serbia continues to be a pariah state, 6 years into the present administration, yet here you are waxing enthusiastic about how everything is coming up roses for Serbia, the "necessary" ally, who's only contribution I can think of is the arrest and extradition of Abdelmajid Bouchar.
Opposed to that real contribution, we've got Serbian disinformation efforts in regards to the London and Madrid Bombings (both of which Serbs tried unsuccessfully to tie to their local opponents - all fun and games until Dragomir Andan got his ass fired for lying to someone besides Serbs) and an abortive offer of troops for Afghanistan, which floundered on the rocks of our demand that the offered troops be vetted for war criminals. And who are those war criminals? Why none other than the "heroes" of Serbia's pre 9/11 "War on Terror".

Uh-huh. It's all fun and games until the contradictions and discrepancies surmount even your ability to pound the square pegs of reality into the round holes of your fantasy world.
I reckon that day will come when Kosovo is granted its independence. And when that happens, Serbia will have lost all ability to cause trouble, and thus be about as interesting as the Czech Republic. Woo-hoo.

And Formerlib & Montyspython, Hoplite was a volunteer soldier in the U.S. Army who did his duty as an infantryman on the DMZ in Korea as well as in the L.A. riots as a Guardsman. Since both of you have denigrated his service, please let us know about all you've done to serve your country? By "your country", I'm talking about the USA, btw, which may rule you guys out. But please do tell if you can.

I am back from Afghanistan, fortunately just in time to see my son before he left for "the best summer of his life" at Fort Benning! I still have bad dreams about that red clay.

P.S. Hoplite was mamber of Greek light infantry. Citizen-soldier was something in Roman Empire and afterwards mideval times.
About damn time. Light has come on. Maybe there is hope that one day our government will see the mistake it made there and make amends with the Serbian people.
And nowhere in there, do I hear mention of "service in Bosnia or Kosovo", unlike others here -- else Hoplite would not likely have confused a Bosnian police chief with Serbia.
Ma Bell would likely chime it about now, but it is quite late in Iraq where he is stationed.
So have we all gotten all the military service credentials out of the way yet?
I see that Hoplite continues to make friends. He is but a pimple festering on the backside of some Islamic terrorist. An ex military cook who's best achievement in the military was making donuts and playing with liver on his own time.
The U.S. is now seeing that Serbia is a better allie than the KLA scum the previous administration coddled up to. Serbia like Israel deserves western support because they are both on the front facing the plague of the Islamic terrorists. The line has been drawn in what is now being described as the beginning of the third world war. Albanians in Kosovo will tow the Islamic fundamentalist line which is why I can't understand Hoplick's dislike for Serbia and its people.
Hoplick is a democrat who smoked to much dope back in the early sixties and who knows what substance he is abusing these days which may explain a few things. The poor old sod wastes away in some delusion he calls reality....
