AP Fires Photographer: Reuters Fires Photographer Over Doctored Photos

UNDATED -- Hajj also worked as a freelancer for The Associated Press from 2003-2005. the AP was reviewing all 193 of his images in its photo archives to verify their authenticity. On Monday, the AP recalled a photo that it had transmitted Sunday night of a worker in Alaska examining an oil pipeline. In that photo, the worker appeared to have four hands, and there were other elements such as a section of pipe that appeared to have a double image. Lyon said the distortions were unintentional and resulted from careless use by the photographer of a software feature in Photoshop called a "cloning tool." The photographer had used the feature in an attempt to clear up a glitch in the picture caused by a dirty sensor, the part of a digital camera that records the image. AP's ethical guidelines permit use of "cloning" in limited circumstances to clean up dirt or scratches from an image. Lyon said the error was not caught by either the photographer or the editing desk before it was transmitted on the AP's photo service. He said the company was reviewing disciplinary actions against the photographer and other parties involved. Last month, The Charlotte Observer said it had terminated one of its photographers, Patrick Schneider, after finding that he had altered the colors in a photo of a firefighter on a ladder. Kenny Irby, visual journalism group leader at The Poynter Institute for Media Studies in St. Petersburg, Fla., said all three instances show that news organizations need to be more careful in how they handle images. "There has to be an editing component that ensures the accuracy of the content," Irby said. "It's not just the photographer that should be examined, but the overall process of the news organization that must be held accountable."

They better take a good look at his alter ego/side kick "Issam Kobeisy". (And Reuters is keeping him on staff to promote more "fauxtography")

A Lebanese civil defence worker removes the body of a toddler from the wreckage of a building August 8, 2006 that was hit by an Israeli raid in Beirut. The attack which took place yesterday on Chiyah, a residential neighbourhood in Beirut, killed 13 people and wounded dozens according to police. REUTERS/Issam Kobeisy (LEBANON)

(horrid gash/no blood-at least they've started plastering the bodies in dust more evenly)

Apparently, others have noticed the similarities in the two photographers' work. The Jawa Report cites these two "different" images by the two different photographers:

A Lebanese woman cries as she carries belongings from her home which was hit by an Israeli air strike in south Beirut July 23, 2006. REUTERS/Adnan Hajj (LEBANON)

A Lebanese woman cries as she carries belongings she founded in the wreckage of her home that was targeted by the Israeli air strikes,in southern Beirut July 23, 2006. REUTERS/Issam Kobeisi (LEBANON)

Awe heck, maybe it's just a typo...

The disturbing make believe photos from this disturbing make believe event are shown below. Don’t allow children under the age of 30 to view this horror caused by Israel. Of course, this is Bush's fault.

No Problem! Here comes your Bomb!

Don't know if you were around back then, but when someone posted a yellow Ryder truck in a photo supposedly shot at a military facility on a Rivero thread, someone else posted a photo with 3 yellow Ryder trucks side by side...
