I am all for the fairtax thing but the idea that it will not require the IRS or some similar agency is silly.
Texas (as many other states) has a sales tax. We still need enforcement and accountability to make it work.
Also, it will get more and more complex over time. Again to think it won't is childish in reasoning. Eventually it will be just as onerous in cost as the income tax we have now.
What we need no matter WHAT system we employ is leaders who will QUIT SPENDING SO MUCH MONEY.

Forty Five States, to be exact, have a sales tax. Accountability will require only one more line on the current state sales tax form and send it to the state taxing authority. Fair Tax FAQ #10

It will considerably more difficult for politicians to hide any spending increase considering there will be only a consumption tax to raise instead of the myriad of federal taxes existing currently with the income Tax. Fair Tax # 42
No tax system is designed specifically to control spending. That is a separate matter that can be addressed concurrently while replacing the income tax.
Exactly. Imagine the psychological effects of making every consumer a taxpayer, constantly reminded of the cost of government every time they buy something.
Oh, and the State Dept. of Revenue would administer it, just as they do now with the State sales tax. (They're reimbursed for their trouble, as are businesses.) I'm from FL, it works the same way here as it does in TX. A beautiful plan.
