Join a network of citizens who are saying Abolish the IRS and Give Us A Fair Tax
Grassfire.org ^

About the Petition: It contains more than 55,000 pages … It is so complex that even those who wrote it don’t fully understand it. The “it” is the federal tax code, and more and more Americans are demanding that the time has come to abolish the IRS in favor of a “Fair Tax” system.

NO- "needed" = "needn't". Thanks for catching my error.
Part of what makes an entitlement an entitlement is that it needn't be re-appropriated every year. The FCA is an entitlement.

I understand and appreciate the insight (noticed it earlier) - and the fool has, as you predicted, stepped on not only his own but that of his GA partner in crime causing him (the GA guy) to convulse.

That's what we're seeing here. I hope many lurkers are watching this as these guys discredit themselves.

I am all for the fairtax thing but the idea that it will not require the IRS or some similar agency is silly.

Texas (as many other states) has a sales tax. We still need enforcement and accountability to make it work.

Also, it will get more and more complex over time. Again to think it won't is childish in reasoning. Eventually it will be just as onerous in cost as the income tax we have now.

What we need no matter WHAT system we employ is leaders who will QUIT SPENDING SO MUCH MONEY.

Since the prebate is not an entitlement it is not based upon income or on the amount of tax they pay (or don't pay).

I cannot think of an entitlement that applies to all U.S. citizen equally. By it's premise, an entitlement excludes some citizens. The prebate treats all U.S. citizens equally.

Don't forget that the 50% number that Rob has pulled out of his own earlobe is as bogus as a seven dollar bill. The only economist that I know of that would put the number that high is Gale and Rob doesn't even use Gale's methods at arriving at that conclusion. Rob has his own way to calculate the fair tax rate.

And he posts endlessly that Rob's rate is the real rate. I should be so lucky to create my own rate for my cd's at the bank. I bet they would be just fine with, what, how about 20% because I SAID SO.

Rob's 50% rate is one of the worst examples of a Freeper repeating a lie often enough. I thought we were better than that on this board.

Rob, if you want to make stuff up there are many publishing houses looking for fiction. Who knows? You could be the next John Grisham.

You guys are absolutely, pitifully, ignorantly stuck on this prebate thing. Sorry, but you are not showing your true agenda here. The prebate is nothing more than a return of taxes paid. Your arguments are whimsical. I daresay lukers are laughing because it is so blatent that you find something and harp on it.

NO kidding??? Wonder why they appropriate things that are entitlements like, say Pell Grants:

"CONFEREES APPROVE FY06 LABOR, HHS, EDUCATION APPROPRIATIONS BILL

November 16th, 2005 - - Bill Funding:

FY05 Comparable: $142.678 billion ($354 billion)
FY06 Budget Request: $141.590 billion
FY06 Conference Report: $142.514 billion ($459.5 billion mandatory spending

Discretionary spending in the bill will be below last year’s level, by comparison mandatory spending carried in the bill will increase by $106 billion or 30% from last year’s level. Protecting Priority Education Programs The Department of Education is funded at $56.5 billion, $299 million above the request and $59 million below last year’s level. This funding level caps a history of significant growth in federal education spending. Since Republicans took control of the Congress, funding for the Department of Education has more than doubled. More recently, over the last five years total education spending has increased by nearly 50%. Earlier this year, states collectively returned $66 million in unspent education funds back to the Federal Treasury. Currently there is nearly $6 billion in un-obligated education funds in the federal pipeline available for states to spend. Maximum Pell Grant awards are maintained at $4050. Total funding is $13.2 billion, $812 million above FY05. Consistent with the budget resolution, $4.3 billion is provided to retire the shortfall that has accumulated in the program over the last several years because of higher than expected student participation in the program. "

Must be a great big government error since you say it's not needed, right???

I am all for the fairtax thing but the idea that it will not require the IRS or some similar agency is silly.

It will require an agency. The IRS will be abolished and the already existing Treasury Department will collect the tax revenues from the states. Fair Tax FAQ #10

Texas (as many other states) has a sales tax. We still need enforcement and accountability to make it work.

Forty Five States, to be exact, have a sales tax. Accountability will require only one more line on the current state sales tax form and send it to the state taxing authority. Fair Tax FAQ #10

Also, it will get more and more complex over time. Again to think it won't is childish in reasoning. Eventually it will be just as onerous in cost as the income tax we have now.

It will considerably more difficult for politicians to hide any spending increase considering there will be only a consumption tax to raise instead of the myriad of federal taxes existing currently with the income Tax. Fair Tax # 42

No tax system is designed specifically to control spending. That is a separate matter that can be addressed concurrently while replacing the income tax.

Anything else you want to add? Maybe something worth discussing? Do you just sit by your computer all day and wait for fair tax threads so you can protect your job? I don't blame you. You should. Sorry. Life's a bitch.

I have an idea for all of you SQL's. Here it is:

Please give us your numbers - mathmatically of course (and don't hesitate to embellish with your commentary but, please, numbers) of how the American taxpayer is better off under the current income tax than he/she would be under the fair tax. I will be most appreciative since such numbers would allow the debate to go forward from its relatively stagnant state.

We who are in wait seek your erudition. It has been said that math is a universal language and all posters, lurkers and fake professors can understand it.

I ask for mathmatical proof that the current income tax is better for the American taxpayer. I asked this from all of the SQL's. This is my first answer. One down.

Mojave, when you show your face again it will have egg on it.

Since you have no idea and are the only one of the SQL's up at this hour I'll wait until morning. Perhaps if you sleep on it you'll be able to come up with something that has some semblance of logic.
