Hizbollah reneges on cease-fire

Hamadi information minister, a Druze, said Sunday night that Nasrallah had broken his word to order Hizballah fighters south of the Litani to hand in their weapons to allow Lebanese army troops to be deployed there.

DEBKAfile reports: Amid heavy fighting across the entire Lebanese front, Israeli field commanders await directives for Monday 0800 hours when the ceasefire deadline goes into force.

Lebanon front commander Maj-Gen Benny Gantz said Sunday night the IDF will honor the ceasefire but also defend its troops and Israeli civilians.

DEBKAfile asks: Have they been told to hold their fire in line with Israel’s acceptance of the UN resolution 1701 now that the Lebanese government and Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah have backtracked?

DEBKAfile has learned that Tehran has meanwhile ordered Nasrallah to keep Israel engaged in combat for another 3 to 4. As a result of which he suddenly backed away from his pledges to France and the Siniora government Saturday to accept a ceasefire and a UNIFIL force in south Lebanon.

Nasrallah said he would wait a month to see how Israel’s retreat from the disputed Shabaa Farms was progressing.

I think we've already got our answer on Aug 22 (Iran nuke decision). It was the message that was supposed to be delivered in those 10 jets over the Atlantic. That was supposed to be their answer.

Good guess. Except the plane bombers have been identified as Sunni and related to al-Queda -- therefore unlikely to take orders from Tehran.

"Only error is posting Debka here. Not a reliable source."

I find Debka more often correct when it is talking about events within or near Israel. Some of its "news" about Pakistan and Afghanistan has been far off base.

If reliability were a requirement to post here, that would exclude most of the "main stream press."

Indeed. I find most of their cartoons to be extraordinary. Check out the archives down the right-hand column of this page.

Debka has a long history of calling the shots more accuratly than the MSM. What is with the Debka bashing?!

When Debka reported that Iraq had troops in Jordan and Israel was helping the king of Jordan root them out, so many Freepers started bashing the report as stupid and baseless because the rest of the media was silent on the issue. But I saw the helos of Israel flying that way and saw the tanks being moved through Jerusalem to the border with Jordan.

It is easy to call Debka stupid from 9000 miles away, but from right here they look pretty darn smart. Seriously, I think Debka is being sold short.
