Thank NSA Wiretapping for Foiled Terror Plot?

Will the New York Times write stories on how eavesdropping is what alerted U.S. authorities to the terrorist airplane attack? Time magazine reported in an exclusive that the "U.S. picked up the suspects' chatter and shared it with British authorities."

The operation involved cooperation between British and American authorities.

Britain's MI-5 intelligence service and Scotland Yard had been tracking the plot for several months, but only in the past two weeks had the plotters' planning begun to crystallize, senior U.S. officials tell TIME. In the two or three days before the arrests, the cell was going operational, and authorities were pressed into action. MI5 and Scotland Yard agents tracked the plotters from the ground, while a knowledgeable American official says U.S. intelligence provided London authorities with intercepts of the group's communications.

The Wall Street Journal says media and Democratic opposition to the programs now looks foolish after the foiled terror plot.

The plot was foiled because a large number of people were under surveillance concerning their spending, travel and communications. Which leads us to wonder if Scotland Yard would have succeeded if the ACLU or the New York Times had first learned the details of such surveillance programs.

Thank God that Dick Durbin, Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer aren't in charge of British Intel, or we'd have 3,000 dead passengers.

Not that they care, they just want Bush dead.

So the questions are - Are you willing to adopt British anti-terror methods which allow the government to:
(1) obtain a warrant with reasonable suspicion as opposed to probable cause?
(2) hold suspects for up to 28 days without charges as opposed to 48 hours here in the US?

Precisely. The Left, the New York Times, and the ACLU are enemies of Liberty and Freedom.

No, the New York Time's advertisers don't need the 62 million plus conservative customers -- so the Times won't bother with this story...

This is exactly what I've been arguing with liberals about for months now. They don't like the Patriot act, they don't like wiretapping, they don't like monitoring bank records and they don't like profiling. However when I've asked theses morons how they would deal with int'l terrorism NOTHING silence, they got nothing to offer.I'd rather be alive with above mentioned tactics then dead with what libs DON"T have to offer !!!

Does that apply to terrorism only or any crime?

As the Washington Times editorialized last week, "We shudder to think" what the NYT would have done with this information...
Even few days, someone should write to the NYT and use "shudder to think," in a letter to the editor.

I honestly don't know if these programs are being used for domestic crime, but I do know they're essential for dealing with international terrorism, and if people in this country want to avoid attacks here they better continue to support any program that helps !!!

That's exactly why I was asking. If they apply to terrorism only, I have no problem with them being used here as well. People keep throwing that question out, as if we'd be happy as a police state. I would not. But none of that will matter if we're all dead!

This tidbit of info first broke the other day on FOX News (where else). If Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi had their way, the Patriot Act would have been killed. It was the Brit's "Patriot Act-type" surveillance that foiled the Terror in the Skies Plot. If the GOP doesn't capitalize on this before November 7, they deserve a good butt whoopin'.

The real problem is what the Terrorists are doing to subvert getting warrants to tap phones.

What were the dudes in Michigan doing with 1000 prepaid cell phones? They were reselling them. The problem is they are selling them to terrorists. A prepaid cell phone has no owner. You can't look up a number and know who is using the phone.

Why do they need a thousand? So they can talk one day on one phone and the next day on another. So there is no way to even get a permanent phone number for a terrorist. One terrorist can talk on a dozen numbers. And since we don't know who is talking or where, it is impossible to get warrant to listen in on the converstaions. It will take the authority to canvas phone conversation on content to catch them. Democrats claim the President has no such authority and should not be granted such authority.

It is very important to be able to search randomly for for conversations that may be suspect. Democrats and the Main stream media don't want to allow that to happen. Remember these are USA prepaid cell phones... we can't eavesdrop on them according to Democrats.

The New York Times, the rest of the Main Stream media and the Democrats are going to get a lot of us killed.

Could it be that the Democrats and the Main Stream Media are happy to see a lot of Americans die, if it returns the Democrats to power?

They may think it is a small price to pay.

I don't want a police state either, but like I said earlier, this terrorist problem isn't going away, and so far nobody has come up with alternatives to what the government is using to deal with it !!!
