Nearly two week ago, NBC’s Andrea Mitchell suggested hard-line Communist Raul Castro really did have a soft spot for capitalism.
“Raul has been in charge of the military and the economy,” Mitchell explained to the August 2 “Today” show audience, calling Fidel’s younger brother “politically hard-line but more open than his brother to free enterprise, including foreign investment.”
She might be on to something, after all.
“Federal prosecutors in Miami were prepared to indict Raul Castro as the head of a major cocaine smuggling conspiracy in 1993, but the Clinton Administration Justice Department overruled them, current and former Justice Department officials tell ABC News,” ABC’s Brian Ross and Vic Walter reported on August 14.
“The officials say Castro, as Cuban Defense Minister, permitted Colombian drug lords to pay for the use of Cuban waters and airstrips as staging grounds for smuggling runs into the United States in the 1980s and early 1990s,” the investigative journalists noted in The Blotter, an ABC News Web log.
Castro’s involvement is likely ongoing noted Ross and Walter, quoting an unnamed federal law enforcement official saying that “the U.S. Coast Guard can’t go after them in Cuban waters.”
Andrea Mitchell not only knows nothing, she suspects nothing.

Surprise, surprise. NOT! The Clinton Cartel must have a friend in Cuba.
It's an act of war for a foreign military to seize ships within the territorial waters of another country.
Because they are a soverign nation, and it would be an act of war.
We are dealing with gangsters, criminals, petty thieves and cutthroats with big budgets for big weapons.
Hizballah, Hamas, al Qaeda, all the jihadists are nothing but human beings without a moral compass. Satan has convinced them that he is God and that he is called "Allah".
One of them, the Nazi Ahmadinajad, happens to have an actual nation, with land and borders. But that doesn't make him legitimate. He's still a punk thug. Even the people who elected him don't like him and are sorry they ever voted for him. Same with Chavez who is ruining Venezuela for his own inflated ego. No wonder he seeks comfort in that Soviet/Cuban crocodile. I hope that crok is as dead as rumored.

Yup. They turned over little Elian Gonzales whose mother gave her life to win him American freedom and prosperity. Turned him over after kidnapping him at gunpoint. He almost took an Arkansas dirt nap.
Obviously if you have to smuggle it the enterprise isn't strictly "free" ... but nothing about exchanging drugs for money violates free-market principles.
