We did have AFN radio, but it was primarily an entertainment medium. The news was generated by military reporters. It was usually accurate from what I observed until Tet 68 broke out but I really cant blame them for slipping up on their initial reporting on that party.

Benefits of being on a larger boat. The LCUs I was on in Viet Nam had both the AN/PRC 25 and a civilian marine AM band radio. The effective range of both was only a few miles.
